What does this mean to me? I can send a duplicate of my DAW's main monitor to the iPad and send screen control midi out from the USB to my DAW!.
What makes you think that VGA connector is an input?

Well there goes that...f**king apple! How many ppl who own the thing will want to use the VGA for video demonstrations apposed to those who would have wanted to use it as a comfortable way to work within there mac/pc while sitting back relaxing in their comfy chair? The output only VGA makes little sense to me.
I'll bet apple will incorporate the above feature later on in a way more expensive model...the creeps.

y'know until you said that, i would wondered why you would even think of it that way round, but i get it now. it really would make sense to have it bidirectional...

Or you could use something like Screen Sharing/VNC: saves having to have the machines tied with the cable. Just use WiFi. It also have fewer issues with scaling the display compared with trying to interpolate a raw VGA bitstream. (This assumes a version of VNC gets ported to the iPad - I don't think there's one for the iPhone as yet).

I've got one - it's called my pc and daw. IPad - too small and too gimmicky methinks.

I use VNC all the time, for sysadmin stuff and sheer bloody laziness (yes I sometimes use VNC so I dont have to go upstairs) so I agree that its a substitute, but it has to be said, its a bit 'techie' for some, and it doesnt entirely preclude some of the usefulness of annode's take on it.

The Mac's Screen Sharing is basically a warmed-over version of VNC that's somewhat easier to get going than the standard ports of VNC to OS X. However, some people I know do prefer good old VNC on OS X because it provides a little more control than the built-in Apple version.

I can see annode's point but I can't see Apple doing a video input simply from the aesthetics PoV - too many trailing cables. Wireless USB might make sense as there is a way of delivering video over that, but it's not clear whether Apple will support much of an aftermarket for iPad peripherals.
