There's going to be some disappointment when people fire up their favourite news web pages, only to discover lots of white squares where the videos used to be. Not quite 'Harry Potter' newspapers yet, is it.

Do you really need those 'Apps' anyway?
"look if I touch the screen just there it makes a bong sound with expanding circles, isn't that great!"
no.
:P :P

Are you sure they ever said that?
I thought it was quite clear from the start that it didnt't?

I can't wait to program beats with iDrum mpc style on the iPad.
Developers make better musical tools for this device than on a mac or PC.
I see this device as a boon for the industry.

LMFAO! You guys are crying over Flash?.

All I need now is an AKAI iPK88 for the iPad and I'm golden. ;-)

if it hasn't been mention already keep an eye on this guy and you get an idea of what is possible with the iPad.

I don't quite get the point of having a remote computer terminal for a computer that's in the same room with you. A hardware controller with physcal dials I can understand.
It's a nice big screen on the iPad, so you could pack in more controls, but finger resolution selection still limits it compared to a normal laptop.
Perhaps something zoomable with large dials would work, but why not just sit at the computer instead.

I am talking about the ipad as a touch mackie controller.

Saying that uses for AC-7 on an iPhone or Touch

playing an edrum kit away from the computer to transport your host.

Having a midi controller away from the computer and being able to transport your host.

A full featured multi touch Mackie controller on iPad will happen.

I suppose I'm asking a general question on these touch remotes, let's say in a busy working studio scenario:
On an individual 'app' basis, is it really useful, and time saving, and quick to set up?
Or is it just a cool gadget that's overall just a bit fiddly? And breaks easily.

Don't get me wrong, I love gadgets, it's just the old 'invention looking for an application' saying that bothers me about these things.

personally I think what we are seeing is what happened
with other advancements.

Hardware > software

Hardware controller > multi touch controller

few years will be the norm but some will still drive a mouse.

But yes, there are some applications, where touchpads are cool controllers. Anyways this iPad is totally overhyped (like most Apple-stuff).

?

I meant if you are playing an edrum kit or infact any instrument away from your
computer you can use it as a wireless mackie controller.

and some girls' mothers are bigger than other girls' mothers

I'll get me coat...

...but before that. Listening rooms in high-end studios often have a nice big comfy sofa, and it's not just acting as a bass trap. I can certainly see something like this being handy.

I've also used Screen Sharing/VNC on a laptop sitting on top of a master keyboard to control a sequencer that's running on the main machine across the room. It's not even a very big room.

Anyone mentioned yet it's possible potential for live use?

Hey look, Jobs thinks I'm right!
And he's a guy that has the tendency to have some vision :D
During last week's town hall, Jobs also took a swipe at Adobe Flash - still absent from the iPhone and apparently absent from the iPad as well. "They are lazy," Jobs allegedly said of Adobe. They have all this potential to do interesting things, but they just refuse to do it...Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy...

"Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it's because of Flash. No one will be using Flash...The world is moving to HTML5."

A Lemur is probably going to stand up to an upturned pint of beer a little better. It's more expensive but the software is right here, right now.

It's not hard to see someone coming up with something that looks like the Tenori-on interface for the iPad (or devices like it).
