generalstargazer, if you feel there are 3 tracks demanding a certain level of vote from you, and you really cant decide between all the others, then its better to vote for the 3 than give out points just because you can, and based on criteria other than what's there in the music ... but there are still two weeks to go, so you can hold off if you like, and maybe on another listen, whether tomorrow, next week, or 10 minutes short of the deadline, something might jump out at you!

Allrightie then ! Carefull what you ask fortattiemannie wrote:Oh, and before you run off and start tweaking Synth1, could you submit some presets to the preset folder??

OSC'ers, You'll find a collection of 9 .fxp presets for Synth1 in the aforementioned folder .
I hope you find them usefull.
Hey TatttieMannie, let me know if I need to redo the .zip file, I think I got the zip files right.

10 - Gone Rogue
Everytime I hear it my head just start to bounce. You would need to see it to understand me
5 - No Rogues Were Harmed
Variety of textures, sounds fitting together. Mood like from haunted circus or underground club for people coming from dark star. Very climatic!
3 - RogueRage
This song must come from 80's. Chord progressions and patches sound very alike to these times. Big + for crazy flute/lead sound.
2 - She was Hatless
Night, street, dark corner... Somebody's moaning in the darkness... Murderer steps into the puddle... Broken lamps are blinking, wires laying around creating short circuits (electricity uses noise section of Rogue
)
1 - Enable Smiling
Speaking/singing synth
Other competing tracks:
All Too Familiar
Good lead voice. My head feels almost as much bouncy as during 'Gone Rogue'. I just had to drop one of these competing for the first place on my list
Heavy Rogue
Competitor to 'No Rogues Were Harmed'. Good arrangement, but somehow lacks dynamics of it's competitor. Maybe drum loop is very filled? I would also blame for it lots of compression that squeezed waveform a bit in some places.
Rogue Batty's Dream
Direct competitor to 'She was Hatless', shares similar style and feel. This time it's maybe some underwater hollow sounding landscape with sonars, atomic submarines and underwater creatures. Decision the same as above - I had to drop one of these to keep more variety on the short 5-place-only-list.
Alone
Great, strong, ambient track, I like listening to it a lot. Even if it's long it's not boring anywhere. Somewhere, somehow I feel it not being enough representative to showcase Rogue's features.

Gone Rogue - Rellik 10
Great song very exotic, reminds me of Tim/Geoff Follin
No Rogues Were Harmed - Nahkranoth 5
I really like that sound of the solo-lead, also very exotic scales which I of-course like.
Alone - MOK 3
Great track, creates a nice atmosphere.
Heavy Rogue - V'ger 2
This song is a bit similar to the to first, but doesn't manage to be as exotic to my ears as the 2 others. Still a good song.
RogueRage - Tattiemannie 1
A nice chip/SID/8-bit game song. A lot going on, very progressive. I like that flute that sounds like it's going out of control.
Some great songs in this Osc!
And nice to see the new people on top. Well at least on my list.

Re - voting criteria. Much the same as V'ger although I'm more kind of synth led about 50%, tune 30% and production 20%.tattiemannie wrote:OK, looks like I've got some counting to do!
At the same time there is plenty of synergy between the three trinities as pointed out
My Rogue presets are up as "MXB" which is an abbreviation of my moniker - sound pretty weak without their effects applied!

hakey, I'm gonna upload your 'skanky patches' file to the Rogue presets folder
... I'm fairly sure someone else uploaded patches, but not to the 4shared Rogue presets folder, ... in the submissions thread I mean ... anyone remember??
EDIT, I've uploaded the presets, but first, renamed them to include 'hakey' in the title ... as everyone else has done ... this way, I can zip them all together when we have collected more, and folks will still know who created which when they download the collection as a zip
I've also uploaded the 'skanky patches' 7zip if anyone wants your samples as well.

10 - Rogue Batty's Dream - Totolitoto
omfg omfg omfg. I love this - it tells such a great "story". Amazing sound design, from the static squeals to the hauntingly deep, buzzy brass. Fantastic soundscape, paired with an immense groove, and above all a detailed, dystopian, indescribable mood.
5 - Alone - MOK
This one gets a few "omfg"s too. Again, wonderfully moody, fantastic expressive sounds and automation, and great development. Just listen to that hit at 00:41, or that snare that comes in at 5:04. Your bells remind me so much of steel drums. And such attention to detail! So much to learn from this entry and the above
3 - curiosas - shroom feverish
Very cool sound ideas here. It doesn't grab my attention musically as much as some of the other entries, but there's some really great, detailed sound design. That subtle noise wash that builds up in the background from the distortion, the icy crystalline reverb on the "lead", the trippy micro static percussion, the articulation of the wub bass pairing with the zip of perc, great effect. Extremely compelling sound world.
2 - All Too Familiar - Yeager
Great catchy and atmospheric groove. What really brings this one out is the development as things get into the second half - very cool rhythmic and timbral introductions and a shift in mood that amps up the tension. I just really like the smooth and upbeat beat in general of this one.
1 - Heavy Rogue - V'ger
Cool! Lots of detail, and so very hard-hitting. The production felt a little muddy and dull, but the percussion was really really cool. Just very solid synthestration in general
and some very catchy riffs here and there.
Lots of other great tunes in my "potentials" list, was hard to decide! Also, Roguedub - No_Use amused me quite a bit
thanks for submitting that track!

10 pts: Rogue Batty's Dream - Totolitoto
As someone said the last comp, this thing screamed 10 points from the first time I heard it. Brilliant work all round with composition, sounds, production and a tune I would be happy to have on my living room fav playlist (which I probably will). However, it got really stiff competition from Shroom and MOK at competition close to make me think again. It just didn't seem fitting to give one 10pts and any other half or less, but them's the rules, so after a longer bout of indecision I chose this as it may have scored more in the composition department. Great work dude.
5 pts: Curiosas - Shroom Feverish
Wrongly titled entry and stroppy entrant is very bad form and would normally cause me to pass it by, but the sheer coolness of the tune forced me to consider it even so..
Both this and Batty's Dream is the kind of ambient\chillout that I really like and look for when listening to radio, and there's no denying that a lot of personal preference will come into voting, but they both show off the synth brilliantly with good sounds and the production is top notch anyway. The maker of Rogue would surely be overjoyed to have this as their demo tune on the site, and as with Totolito's tune, this might end up on my regular fav playlist, that's how much I like it with its hot FX sounds and ambience.
3 pts: Alone - MOK
Another misnomer gets reprieved, for here is a very good entry. This was also considered for top spot as there is no doubt the synth is showed to its fullest capability with very good sounds and the production is just as good as my top 2, but in end it's all about the tune and how it works totally, and this one lacks perhaps a bit of the ball-grabbing of Toto and Shroom's entries. Still very very good work and nice to see high level done with this imho lowly synth.
2 pts: Rogues in the House - EvilMarshmallow
Seriously impressed with the sound people are getting from the Rogue, here some lovely percussion and bass standouts. Also a very clear defined mix and a good beaty song well put together. I like this kind of X-Cabs'ish riffing although the beats are maybe not varied the same way to force the foot to follow the grooving neck. I always get confused with the genres, so if you say it's house it's house..
1 pt: Gone Rogue - Rellik
Extremely hot in-your-face sound and intricate jazzy composition that I like and no doubt shows off some of the true colors of Rogue, but although a very good mix and sound production, lacks maybe a bit in the automation and variation department compared to my fav entries.

great competition. lots of good tracks. pretty impressed with what you guys have done with rogue.
#1. 10 pts - Rellik (Adam Lederer) - Gone Rogue
---
I like the contrast between the hard and soft sounds.
Good attention to detail, I assume this was tracked, the very fast trills and filter work sound wonderful.
A little bit harsh in the highs, but it gives the whole track a big cutting edge.
Interesting, grabbed my attention immediately. Unlike a lot of other tracks in this compo which went on too long (imo) with intro kinds of phrases. When it's a compo like this, you gotta grab our attention quick, otherwise, it's skip to next.
Ending was a surprise didn't expect this kind of thing.
But it's very well done.
#2. 5 pts - Nahkronoth - No Rogues Were Harmed
---
This is the kind of music cylons listen to before they take on humans in space battles.
I like the broad filter sweeps and the deep warm animosity coming from beneath the surface of the track.
The bridges were pretty well constructed and I never felt like I would have made a different choice, until 1:30, but this is saved by the wicked lead and then the breakdown after it. This also sounds tracked
Would be surprised if it's not.
The drums were kind of weak, but I know it's just rogue so can excuse that part.
#3. 3 pts - Heavy Rogue - V'Ger
---
Bad ass intro, really cyberpunk. Kind of flakes out at :30.
You recover however with some pretty interesting shit at :50.
I especially love the demo-scene kind of feel of the lead and the transposing at around 1:00
It's pretty f**king impressive sound design and the mix is good. I didn't feel fatigued listening to this.
Kind of got fatigued listening to the same kind of skippy beat but you recovered again at 1:40, with the crazy solo/bridge.
All and all, I really dug this track a lot.
#4. 2 pts - Enable-Smiling_MA-Simon_OSC12
---
This is too sweet. Ear sugar. Brought a smile to my face. I imagined bulbous transparent beings with permagrins bouncing into each other on a planet made of nerf. Picking flowers that bounced and waved to the tempo of the track.
The cute little square whistle made me happy. This could be a great soundtrack for a video game.
Kind of has a 8bit Tim Burtonesque feel to it. Really cool
#5. 1pt - MOK - Alone
---
A very well made track. The mix was most professional, but the music kind of bored me after a while. I felt like "come on and get on with it already".
Don't take it too personally, the song is very well made, I guess I just like a different kind of sound and your track was seeked to 3:00 or so after about 45 seconds of listening to it build. Really well made but kind of boring. The times it got interesting I felt it deviated a bit too much from what it was in the beginning, like it seemed forced as if the composer was thinking "I'm bored I want to try something new".
This would have scored higher if it was shorter. 10 minutes is too long.
I think if it weren't in a competition, this would be something I could listen to while doing something else, but in competition it's good but not great imo.
(i guess due to the rules this isn't counted - but i'm leaving the crit for the composer):
#6. Rogues In The House - Evil Marshmalllow
---
I liked this a lot, but it's too long as well for a compo.
Very nice house sounds, I like how it starts sort of dark and then opens up a bit with a neutrality to it.
Sort of like asking the question and then answering it, a great sign of a good composition.
The track is interesting all the way through, but I did find myself seeking after a while.
However, I listened to it after going through the voting process, and think it will be kept in my collection of cool music to listen to while designing/coding. Has a nice interesting background quality.
It kind of fails as a compo track, but it wins at a regular track.
