All of us (hope) remember that in effects, less is more, and the worst thingwe can do to our song is to insert that effect just for the sake of inserting it, but there are effects that seem to say "here I am! what are you waiting for?" and we finish with many instances of it in our project, just because it "may" sound better with it.

The most "overdoable" effect I know is the PSP VintageWarmer. I have some kind of problem with it. I put it in the snares and in the bass... and in the bassdrums. Then I just can't resist to insert it in the drums bus, to make the the sounds fit better in the kit. Then I use it to add some warmth and air to the vocals, the backing ones too, the vocal bus and finally I can't live if I don't put it in the master, too. Damn it. too dirty....Then I remove as much instances I can, but in short time I start again.

What is the effect you abuse most?

Delay! I LLUUUVVVEEE Delay! Short delay...long delay... multi-tap delay... ping pong delay... bucket brigade... mono delay... stereo delay... O yeah baby!

Oh...and Auto-Tune lol

I don't think I abuse any particular effect of plugin. I used to abuse reverb a lot, back when I used to have a Quadraverb and a Boss reverb pedal.

except, of course, when its not.

f**k that, dude. Anything worth doing is worth over-doing. Who cares if it sounds good to the listeners, it's my song.

And you do this by chaining a half-dozen of them?

Mine as well, which has led me to this awesome music career. :hihi:

I went though a phase where I over did this pitch shifter effect (can you remember the ART SGX2000?!) where I had one pedal controlling pitch and the other delay of pitch. Crank the feedback up and feed a guitar into it and add a long reverb to it for good measure. Then I started hearing it everywhere (well, in prog rock like Robert Fripp and his pals) so I abandoned it. How dare he rip me off!

Don't forget the overdriven tube amp effect. That's clearly so over used that we don't even think of it as an effect any more. I do love it so...

Limiting is the most common I hear when listening demo's. Yesterday I mastered a song for a bands demo that will be played on tv. I sent it with ftp and few hours later they called!

basicly it was like: we made 1-2 changes but it was awesome thanks so much!

I asked what did you change, they added some highs and used a limiter ehhe :D

and my master wasn't that dynamic at all, rock stuff so lots of limting and saturation going on. I'm curious to listen it on tv few days later :)

in a similar way, I've gone right off autotune these last few years.
