i cant seem to get any sound whatsoever from any of the drum vst or sf2 that i have. any ideas?

Did you manage to get any sound from any VST in Cantabile?

Google for "Asio4All" audio driver, download and install it. Select this as audio driver in cantabile. It gives you the lowest latency possible on your built in audio hardware.

Which drum plugins do you refer to?

Just note that a drum sound plug in is no drum machine... so you have to play the sounds, either manually, via a midi file or another midi plugin.

SF2 is no plugin format but a special sample format called "sound font". You need a VST that can load and play back these samples, like vstsynthfont or cakewalk sfz+

See if this still works:

You can download cakewalks sfz+ for free there.

hey there again man! yes i actually got sf2 player to work and it's great!! i've downloaded a few drum vst and get no sound and the output levels arent showing anything either. i'd just about rather have sf2 i think, but i'm looking for very digital sounding tom toms etc.

...maybe you have a wrong midi setting for the drums?

General midi uses midi channel 10 for drums, probably you need to map that.

Drum modules often need samples too, so maybe you need to load something in there too. But to be honest, I am no expert for drum VST... :D

i thought you knew everything ?!?!? lol any idea who would know about the drumk thing? just trying to label some sounds. by the way, i havent forgot to play - i practice everyday -no midi, just piano :)

You provide to little information that I can help more... and for sure I don't know everything... :D

If you're looking for a kind of drum accompaniment a sound module alone will not do, you can just play drum kit instruments on your keyboard.

Drumkits differ in that way from keyboard sound plugins that each key is assigned to a different drum sound like bass drum, hi hat, snare,... which is sometimes called drum mapping. Depending on the drum kit you've loaded possibly many keys do not produce any sound - which is ok.

For any accompaniment you need midi files - I mentioned that earlier.

There's not much more I can tell with the information you provided - I also can not try to look into the stuff you're using when you don't tell me what you're trying to use...

i do inderstand. however, you are correct - many of the keys do nothing and the fault was mine for not being more meticulous in my attempts. the midi activity indicators light up when you press any key but only produce sound when you press certain keys. so, many thanks once again :) do you have any suggestions who i may talk to that would be familiar with some of these drum/percussion sounds? i'm looking to identify some sounds i've heard in some older 80's songs.

Sorry, think I can't help you with that... :-o

What about asking a drummer?... :D
