NOTE : this thread dates from Jan 2004, but I update the first post as things change and new pluggos appear.
First of all, install Pluggo Runtime "Mac version 3.5.2 (4.2 MB)" from
http://www.cycling74.com/products/dlpluggo.html
Amongst other files, it will create an empty "Pluggo" folder in your VST folder.
(it will also install a pluggo AU in your component folder (for Audio Unit users); and a pluggo-RTAS file for Protools users, )
Download the free pluggos from the links below, and put them into that VSt - Pluggo folder.
You will then be able to insert 50-60 instruments/FX into either audio tracks or auxiliary tracks in Protools.
* Some of these are still OS9 pluggos.
* Check this thread to see which of these OS9 ones will still work under OSX
* Some of the OS9 ones need to be dragged onto the "Plugmaker" app in order to work in OSX. You will find it in Applications - Pluggo Applications - Plugmaker
Also, you can get 15 or so more free pluggos by installing Pluggo Jr from http://www.cycling74.com/products/dlpluggo.html

It says that the installer is a demo that will emit bleeps, so it's not a free version after all?

Kim, you've downloaded the demo of the full Pluggo program.
Just at the base of the "Pluggo 3.1.1 for Mac' section at http://www.cycling74.com/products/dlpluggo.html, you'll see "Download the Pluggo 3.1.1 runtime installer for Mac OS X (updated 11 January 2004)"
It doesn't come with instruments and FX, but allows you to use the 3rd party (user built) FX and instruments that I've linked above, and is free. (Or if you're OS9, go further down to 'Download the Pluggo 3.0.4 runtime installer for Mac OS 9.'
I'll edit my first post to make this a little clearer.

Cubaseuser, when you've installed the Runtime thing, it creates a pluggo audio unit in the components folder. You put the individual pluggos in the 'Pluggo' folder that's been created inside the VST folder.. Then you run an app called "Pluggo AU scan", and *bang* you've got them all as audio units as well. Exact steps are in the instructions. I checked out the AU ones in the freeware app RAX. Essentially, you can run them as RTAS, VST or Audio Unit.

When did you get the runtime installer ? First couple of days it was out (11-14th) , it had a few components missing. Look inside 'Library - CFM Support' and check that you've got a file called 'VstPlugLib.shlb'

I thought they'd fixed that.
Anyway, I've put the file up at http://people.cofa.unsw.edu.au/staff/sh ... b.shlb.sit (click to download).
Unstuff the file and put it into 'Library - CFM Support'.
EDIT 17.02.04 : the new 3.1.2 Runtime installer correctly installs the previously missing file, so you don't need to download mine anymore
