How to shoot yourself in the foot: Build a website that refuses users with IE6.

What's with the automatic redirection to a "download browser" page?

According to several web browser statistics sites I checked, IE6 is still in use by between 10-20% of visitors. Yes, they (we) should upgrade. But in some corporate environments this is not possible as machines are locked down from Admin control.

Not really, it's about balancing the numbers - why cater for 10% of a potential audience when it mean a lot of additional work to make a site backwards compatible with something that's pretty much deprecated?

If 90% of users were browsing with IE6 I could understand it, but 10% and dropping it doesn't seem worth the additional work on the site.

Just my 2c.

Hmm. Guess google is shooting themselves in the foot. They are dropping ie6 support for their web apps.

It's nearly 10 years old.

I understand that some corporations prevent users from making their own choice, but retaining ie6 compatibility is expensive. As I researched dropping ie6 support from my start ups website, i found most of those users are behind corporate walls just like you. Effectively rendering our actual users to less than 1% who use ie6.

At some point, a business has to move on...

:-)

peace and all that.

hi, just wondered if you could give some more details about the 'set-ups' for Kore 2 and Maschine that are mentioned in the video. I'd like to know more about how Vector integrates with these two products. Thanks!

Did you mean Vortex? You said 'Vector', so just making sure...

As far as Vortex goes, the Kore and Maschine Templates are as follows:

Maschine - Simple MIDI control over parameter knobs, modulators and buttons
Kore - Same as Maschine mostly, except for some macro knobs that allow for relative control of like parameters on all 6 tracks. For example, one knob to control all pitch knobs of each track. It is set to relative as well. This gets really crazy, very fast and is truly too much fun.

I registered but my password does not work on the freebies page -- just keeps going to "enter password" page when I put in my password.

XP SP3, Firefox 3.5.5 ...

Same for me. Just an infinite loop of asking for my password.

XP Pro SP3 running either IE 7.0.5730.13 or FF 3.6. Both browsers give the infinite loop of asking for a password.

The password for the freebies is not the password for your account. Reread the activation emails you got sent... the access password is in there.

Does it use Kore's buttons? It's just there's a stupid limitation in Kore that means they are not automatable (I don't see the point of having them if they are not but NI don't seem interested in fixing it)

Thanks! I certainly wasn't looking for a second pw for the site. Anyway, the price is right.

 Sorry, I read the e-mail too fast. Thanks for pointing that out. It now works fine.
