learn your major scale starting on the second finger on the 6th string... and try to play various notes of that scale together.. ull end up with a couple of chords... then try to vary them... ull start understanding the logic... chords come from scales.. not the opposite...

after that.. realize uve lost a tremendous amount of days fronting on theory, buy yourself a book... and dedicate urself

Use a Tritone substitution whenever you can ;)

I'm learning myself some jazz guitar and I have to support what people are saying. Learning theory is essential. It's not very rewarding at first, but it gives you a solid foundation to keep progressing.

Otherwise you'll learn three chords and you won't know why and how they interact between each other, how to play them in another context, etc...

Get yourself a jazz guitar method book and give it 30 minutes each day to practice some of the stuff there.

you might be a bit out of time dude.

Back in the 20's or 30s when swing was hip Jazz might have been the chick puller, now it might be better to be emo or something modish like that, it probably doesnt require the same time investment or commitment as jazz might.

Being the new Tom Jones might be more advantageous to you, he still seems to drive the girls wild. :) ...and he's nearly 70.

Learn the form first then learn the function.
That is where playing jazz songs comes in. An isolated chord means nothing onto itself it is the form that gives chords scales and licks purpose.

If you can't play a song from start to finish your not going to impress anyone.
