The AcademicGrand is a 1963 Steinway D concert grand which has seen countless recitals and concerts over the years where it served as the University of Arkansas' primary concert instrument. The piano has been an inspiration to hundreds of students and visitors, and with being well-maintained and cared for, it's a wonderful instrument with a unique history and classic American Steinway sound.

- This Library is the result of a collaboration with Lance Herring

- Recorded at 24Bits/48Khz
- 4 Velocity layers for the sustain
- 4 Velocities for the release.
- Sympathetic resonance (Pedal Up and Pedal Down samples)
- 3 release types, notes, thumps, on pedal down (3d one only in kontakt)
- Additionnal pedal noise (up and down), automatic in kontakt version

Well,this piano sounds great!! I love the tone it has etc.. I have been needing a piano sample badly and have been so up in the air on which to get. So many to choose from. I do mainly modern pop/rock music and have been trying to find one that I know will sit well in the mix. I like the tone control and hoping that will help me. I will most likely get this cause the price is cheap enough

) Btw, I have kontakt but have never really dug in the program too much. Does the reverb you guys used come with Kontakt or is this something you have to get?? Thanks

Hey, thanks for the kind words! The tone control is a nice way to easily tailor the brightness of the sound (really handy in a live situation too).

Kontakt 3 and I believe Kontakt 2 both come with reverb and convolution effects. The convolution reverb I used in the demos is one of the presets that comes with Kontakt. I'm pretty sure you can also use reverb plug-ins as well.

Hey thanks so so much for the kind words! I can't stop playing it either... it's certainly a very "playable" sampled piano. I looked at your website earlier, but I've not had a chance to listen to your demos yet. I certainly will! And maybe our AcademicGrand might find its way into some of your work.

Just an Update

The AcademicGrand is now available in EXS24 format! And SFZ is on its way.
Thos formats miss some features of the Kontakt version because of the scripting, but they still sound really good

The AcademicGrand is now available in GIGA, SFZ and HALION 3 formats.

At the risk of being accused of necroposting...

I'm just hoping anyone who's bought this and uses it on a regular basis will comment...

Are the transitions between velocity layers (only 4, really?!) as smooth as they seem in the demos?

How does it sit in a mix, primarily pop, rock or R&B productions?

I ask not out of spite, malice or anything synonymous...I'd like feedback from people who use it because if it's all it appears to be, I will have to further feed my sampled piano addiction and purchase a copy.

And...

Does their website accept PayPal? (Would assume so, but you know what they say about assumption...)

How much ram?
What happens if it gets loaded with Wusik which has disk streaming?
