I want to achieve this whether it be with a Compressor or a filter of some sort. I want when My deep bass hits, my kick automatically filters out the lows! thank you... I use GLUE compressor Or Logic, or Sonalksis filter. HELP, Thank you!

Post

Don't know about Sonalksis (possibly) or The Glue (doubtful if you want a filtering effect), but you can easily do this in Logic using its AutoFilter in HP mode.

Well is there a way to only compress the LOW end :) so the 808 can sit when it comes in. thanks

Fabfilter's Volcano 2 has built in sidechaining. Works in Sonar, but can't speak for any other hosts. Just set it to high-pass, and sidechain to it, like you would a compressor.
Personally, i thought it was a little bit clumsy and awkward, because it doesn't give a visual readout of what the filter is cutting at when the sidechain kicks in, but i only gave it a 10 minute demo, so maybe it just needs getting used to.

All you have to do is duplicate the channel and for example on the first channel low pass everything at around 200 hertz. On the second channel high pass everything at around 200 hertz. Now just sidechain the high passed channel.

Kenna,

I'm not sure if this will work, but logics actual compressor should be able to do this.

Check out the Advanced field drop-down menu, and it has a filter option.. See if setting it to Highpass with your desired frequency..

Let us know if it works!

I'm thinking that probably won't. I might be wrong, but i think most compressors with sidechain filters just use the filtering to make the compressor react to a narrower signal, but it still compresses the whole spectrum when triggered.
Haven't tried Logic though, so all the best to them, if i'm wrong on that.

db audioware sidechain compressor do it...

Logic's Multipressor (a multi-band compressor) will (really!) do what the OP is trying to do.

Just set the lowest band for the appropriate frequency range, set its threshold low enough to be triggered by the sidechain kick, and set the thresholds high enough in the remaining bands to prevent them from operating (or bypass those bands).

I was going to say wouldn't sidechaning any multi-band compressor do the trick?

Post

Thanks alot for the replies guys. *hits self in the head* Duhhhh a multiband! thanks!!!

Is this what the pros are doing, sometimes I notice that the main kick is still pumpin when a large 808 bass is riding the beat... but the beater... (mid-range) is still in charge... I assumed so. thats why i made this post.

Izotope's Alloy does multi-band compression with VST3 sidechain assigned to one or more bands.

give Voxengo's Transmodder a try too
