Wow I can't believe this thread is still alive.
It was started in April 2004
I no longer own the EZ-AG.... (I upgraded to a Ztar)
and now I'm ready to upgrade/downgrade to something like a Godin.

Hi there all
.
I'm a proud owner of a brand new EZ AG that arrived to me just yesterday. I've went through hell trying to ship it from the US to Poland but after a month of waiting here it is.
I've spent over 6 hours yesterday fiddling with the guitar, ripping through this enormous thread (80 pages remaining
) and trying to set the instrument to coop with VSTs. After numerous combinations I've found a setting that works with both Mark's and Markleford's script - they are both top notch. However I have a problem.
Everything works well until I fret a note and hit the string. The note is then played, but when I release the fret, both scripts still log that the fret is being pressed. This results in playing the previously fretted note while hitting an open string. The fret resets when I hit it without plucking the string. This one is nasty as it doesn't allow to play the instrument as a guitar - can anybody tell me what could be the problem, and most important - how to solve it step by step?
I would appreciate any help
. I just want to play it as in EZ-AG's native mode.
EDIT: I've taken a peek at raw midi signal. It looks like that in this specific situation the pc is not recieving the Note Off signal and thus doesn't turn the fret off. Can it be the fault of my midi2usb cable (quite low-end) or maybe it's something else?
SOLVED: Never invest in a cheap midi2usb cable. I've tried M-Audio Midisport Uno and it worked wonders

Is there still much demand for the EZ-AG? I'm in the UK and thinking of selling mine. Unfortunately I've never really had enough time to devote to it, but it is a neat device.

I checked on google products and theres only a few stores who sell the AG, i think the EZ-EG is more in demand as they dont sell them in the UK, i had to import mine from Japan

In case anyone in the UK is interested, I've just put my EZ-AG on eBay here. I think it's great fun, particularly for controlling VSTs. Unfortunately I don't have the time to devote to it, so reluctantly I'm selling it to raise some cash.

Hi there. I've read through a few post and will endevour to read more. I just thought I'd post where I am at the moment with my EZ-AG. I'm using Mixcraft Acoustica as my DAW.
I've worked out that Note off only works in Local on. However the note off doesn't seem to work for all VSTis. Stuff like Pizzicato (short abrupt sounds) are fine, but sometimes on extended notes (strings) it occasionally gets 'stuck'. When I play something like a cello there are a couple of issues;
1. I only hear about 60% of the notes I play. Let's say I pick various strings/notes 10 times. Probably 4 or the notes don't register and don't make any sound. It's like it can't keep up with me.
2. For the most part when I hit a string the note off works and the notes fades out, but on some notes it doesn't work (I'm talking about in the same VSTi). Again this is related to VSTi with extended length like orchestral stuff and strong instruments. If I play 10 notes on a cello I don't hear four of the notes (see No.1) and one of the remaining notes that I do hear does not trigger note off, so just keeps going and going.
3. I had an issue with notes being played when I fret a particular note, but I seem to have solved this by changing the particular VSTi velocity to 17 or above.
4. Every now and then 'SnG' is display on the guitar and it makes a repetitive piano noise. Very strange and I have no idea what it means.
Any help with figuring out items 1, 2 and 4 is greatly appreciated. This thing will be great when it's up and running properly. Either that or my patience will run out and I'll be reselling on eBay

What would be nice is something like Guitar Pro 5 is having. When opening a midi file it shows the positions on the neck. If there is a program available that could read a midi file, translate this to a fredboard as it is done in Guitar Pro 5 and export it (to a file which can be uploaded back to the EZ-EG) including the lighted freds it would be a dream for all those who would like to learn to play guitar.
Does anybody know, or does anyone has the techniques to do so.

[quote="tigweld"]I've written some software specifically for the Yamaha Guitar.
Its a Guitar Tab Editor/ Player and Training software written to take
advantage of the two-way communication of the guitar.
I've even thrown in a couple games you can play by using the guitar as the controller.
You can see the video on youtube.

Hello!
Waooow I'm blown away! I bought an ez-eg when it came out many many years ago, did not use it for years and look! There are things going on here! I really want to test your software. I work for video-game companies and would love to give you feedback on this. Got to get a midi interface first though.
Does anyone knows where we can find official yamaha songs with the frets lighting up out there? I think the Japanese web site has a bunch but are they available elsewhere?
Cheers,
FM.

I assume the USA Yamaha site would have the sysex song stuff to load and light up the frets, all I know is they have light up keyboards too, so they probably still sell the songs.
