( Voters: 17, Votes 357 )

No change in the top 4, but 'Alone' adds 12 points to its lead with a 20 point gain. 'Gone Rogue' appears to have woken up and closes the gap on 'Rogue Batty's Dream' in 2nd place.
'RogueRage' appears to have given up on 3rd, and may have to sweat to hang onto 4th place.
Still tight between 5th and 9th, 'Curiosas' joining 'Rogues in the House' at the head of that pack, but we could still see that group joined by any of few sitting close behind.

Still all to play for!
keep 'em coming! :)

dwsel, Mouxbar, mrblitz000, No_use, here's wishing you a few points before we finish up, but you may want to start thinking about which synth you are going to choose for OSC15 .... :)

If we have to do a tiebreak for last place, I'll do some random method ... like the dice rolling prog ... rather than rub someones nose in it by voting on the tracks til we find a clear 'loser' :hihi:

Well I've listened once again, and I'm struggling to seperate out the 10, 5, 3, 2, 1 thing! Amazing stuff once again .... I'll say again, I didn't think Rogue was anything particularly special, but we have another great collection of music!

You guys are too good! I think in the interest of the 'challenge' we really need to start looking at stuff like 'one ping only' :hihi:

Post

Listening again, but I'm frazzed! ... Def vote tomorrow! ,,, but hey folks, dont follow my example, get your votes in! 3 days to go!!!!

99 - dwsel ... Nice thick sounds, though not many of them, but they work well together... I like use of ambience to give the illusion of them being in a small room ... adds to the tension of the tracks general feel, and creates a fullness to the track.

All Too Familiar - Yeager.... Familiar yes, surely based on a well known classical piece? ... nevertheless, the production is excellent, the sounds are of a great range and quality, and the composition is well thought out with a good balance of variation and integrity. The intro seemed a bit at odds with the track, but then again, demonstrated more cool sounds coaxed out of Rogue. A very pleasant and engaging track.

Alone - MOK ... Nice track! Percussion sounds are great, and generally have an 80s synth pop feel. Would have like to have heard more variation in sounds in a track this long, but the variation and dynamics employed in the composition more than make up for that, and altogether, an excellent representation of the character of Rogue. Great production, and the track just keeps moving, shifting, sweeping and swirling ... holding attention from start to finish.

Curiosas - shroom feverish... Seems like there are more seperate sounds in there with every listen! I cant help visualising a speedboat race when I listen to this one, the arp with its lovely syrupy sound gives a sense of urgency, and with a lot of water and air in the other sounds, the track kinda 'sprays' out. love that bubbly sound at the end.

Enable Smiling - MA Simon.... Ah, The Residents! ... yeah, I'm smiling!! I dont know what else to say .. I love it! the sounds are good, and the use of them is better ... nice composition and production. I dont think it's gonna score high, but I'm gonna try cos its one of my faves for sure!

Gone Rogue - Rellik.... Mad track! Some of those sounds, particularly the lead, have a 'larger than life' quality, and the composition is cool! Definitely a game soundtrack.

Heavy Rogue - V'ger.... Grabs attention from the off! .... straight in at the deep end! Lead sounds are particularly good, lots of expression in the composition. A real thick 'in yer face' track. Good use of percussion, even though it sounds as if the percussion is merely one of the sounds already there being played in short sharp bursts.

Ice Cold in Alex - Mouxbar.... Good mix of sounds here, possibly worth a vote for that clickity perc sound alone. Simple but solid composition. Leaves me wishing more could have been done with that lead sound which arrives at 1.11 ... cool sound! ... very guitar like in its application.

No Rogues Were Harmed - Nahkranoth... Great composition and good range of sounds which work beautifully together. A very lively track altogether! Percussion sounds are not bad at all ... cool track!

Point Six Nine - mrblitz000.... Unmistakably mrblitz000, bending those scales in a barely legal fashion, and taking us on a journey in the dark! ...This time on a bobsleigh with the Clangers and the soup dragon! Good sounds, nice and natural ... but not quite enough of them ... nice journey though!

Rogue Attack - Xenobioz.... Impressive and scary! Great arps and suffocatingly thick creamy sounds .. Good range of quality sounds, good varied composition and dynamics. Yeah, I like this one a lot!

Rogue Batty's Dream - Totilototo.... Ships horns set an ominous scene. Cool percussion sounds, lovely production, and excellent composition. Quality sounds.... wood, glass, metal, paper, rock, sand, air, water, plastic ... its all there. Really cool track!

Roguedub - No_Use .... Oh yes! The Residents again! I like the Residents! I think OSC must have nearly enough tracks for a Residents tribute album by now! ... bring it on! .... sorry, back to the track. A carefree 6/8 track with a good range of sounds, and good ( if a little muddy) percussion sounds. As with the other 'Residentsish' track, cant score it high by the criteria I use, but it tickles me in all the right places!

Rogues in the House - EvilMarshmallow.... Love that motorbike rev bass sound! Clubby kind of vibe, great percussion sounds and good production! Well, whether it gets a vote or not, best bass and drum sounds for sure! A couple of different sounds of the same quality would have this well up there!

Shadow Animals - AbstractCats.... Nice thick airy sounds, and good kik! Lead sound is great, and a good solid feel to the production. Lacks a bit of variation in the composition though, but sounds good.

She Was Hatless - John Boyd.... Interesting mix of cool sounds, and an interesting track altogether! Nice use of space, excellent composition and good production ... hard to say any more, another one of those tracks which I love, simply for the feel of it.

Skanky Funker - Mr Wobble.... Good bass and percussion, and other sounds are good as well! Nice production and good composition ... nice use of stereo field ... a real feelgood vibe about it.

Winter On Andara - AbstractCats.... Bass sounds good ... like a bass guitar, and a nice tight kik! Nice spacey arrangement and production. Composition a little bit simple for me though.

OK, just got to chop nine tracks down to five! :(

Post

Yes Mac, there you go ... believe it!! Just the hard bit to do, but reading above, you can see I'm closing in on a verdict! ... and yet, All i can say for sure is that Totolitoto need not worry! :)

Post

OK, I believe now  :P

Post

OK, it is with heavy heart I deliver my verdict!

Only one of my favoutite 6 tracks actually get a mention here. This was hard! Not only is the quality of the tracks superb, but the variety was impressive, leading to a frustration in deciding who to give the votes to ... as in, comparing apples with chair legs!

In the end, there are tracks I will leave out despite the persuasive quality of their production, composition, and general listening pleasure. All the tracks which get my vote just have either particular sounds, a collection of sounds, or a use of sounds which impressed me.

So here we go.

Rogue Batty's Dream - Totilototo .... 10
Rogue Attack - Xenobioz .... 5
No Rogues Were Harmed - Nahkranoth .... 3
Alone - MOK .... 2
All Too Familiar - Yeager .... 1

I wont mention the tracks which either almost made it, or the ones I wanted to make it, that should be apparent from my comments ... but thanks to all contributors ... it was a whole lot more pleasure listening to these the first 5 or 6 times round where I could enjoy each and every one for what it is without the pressure to compare them ... brilliant work! :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Now that's funny.
Just had to watch some YouTube videos to know how the Residents sound. Had no idea before. I have to admit I don't quite like them (sorry tattiemanie ), but I agree one CAN see some similarities to my track if one wants. :D
Anyway, thanks for the nice comments. :)

No probs No_use ( ha ha .. to the tune of no woman, no cry? ) ... The residents are surely a 'Marmite' band ...you either love them or hate them!

Worth mentioning though, that what I hear when I compare tracks with The Residents relates more to very early stuff ... like mid to late 70s ... cant say I like everything they've done since then.
