Back in my student days I almost wore out my copy of that recording. Messiaen as a prisoner of war could compose better music than regular folks who have all the amenities although for someone like him maybe that was the motivating factor.

This was my first time hearing it (and possibly Messiaen, at least while aware of it). It's quite something. Suggestions for a next Messiaen recording would be welcome.

My other favourite piece of Messiaen's work is Des Canyons aux Etoiles although my housemate absolutely hates it when I do play it. I always seem to return to Quator Pour La Fin Du Temps as something about it just resonates with me. I also enjoy the complete organ works when the mood is on me.
