What's cool about this plugin is that it has some very well know studio monitors already builted in. One thing I've wondered about is what headphones were used as reference when Jeroen Breebaart was designing this plugin?
I don't know, but that's a great question.

ipod earbuds maybe .. :hihi:
re/ presets, i actually found i had to back things off quite a bit especially regarding the 'distance' dial to get anything like my environment. The default sounds a long way away, in a big room! If most people loaded it and judged it on that sound, they would probably un-load it pretty quick.

I think you are right! I've got a lot to learn about this thing in order to use it. See to my ears, it just sounds REALLY DIFFERENT and there is nothing I have as a reference as to what I am gaining.

More shit to learn :hihi:

Actually the HRTF responses that were used to develop
the plugin were compensated for headphone response;
meaning that any effect that headphones have was removed
from the data.

Developing/testing/debugging etc was done on a wide variety
of headphones, ranging from cheap one-euro earplugs :?
up to studio-grade headphones.

Wrt presets: if you have any good suggestions, let me know;
I can consider to include them in an update.

if i get time soon (away from my work computer a.t.m) i'll post my default setting that works for me.. hibidy drop the distance level to around 1m and go from there.also not much room/reverb is needed really, just a little.

That would be great :)

I emailed Jeroen Breebaart this question and explained that I was planning on using Isone Pro for mixing multi track audio recordings, using Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones.

Here is his reply

"Hello,

The exact details of the headphones are in fact not so relevant.
There is an increasing amount of scientific evidence that
small deviations from a flat response (or changes in the
frequency response of HRTFs) do not have any negative
influence on sound source localization.

Isone was designed to give a similar 'timbre' as you would
get without isone processing. If you have a set of headphones
that you like for normal use, Isone should work as well.

I hope this helps,

best regards,

Jeroen"

From the answer I gather it doesn't matter what headphones you use because it won't effect the sound source locaization, but I think you still have to take in acount your headphone responces and characteristics. Guess it all comes back to using your ears and a/b testing headphones, monitors and stereo systems...to hear if you can model each using the Ispone Pro plugin.

sorry if this has been asked already, but can you please make the room reverb a bit more flexible? the roomsseems a bit bright some times. just a damp control or and eq would be great :).

cheers!

FWIW thick really does describe people who couldn't grasp what the big deal about the obnoxious beep was :D Then again, thinking things through has always appeared to be an overrated thing hereabouts...
+1
dejavu.
im becoming more and more convinced that bmanic may indeed be the only one here who knows wtf he is talking about.

and the 'disengage' thing he was quoted on multiple times...?
i mean, its as if most of the people in the thread have NO IDEA what the thing is ACTUALLY for.

cuz its cheap!

This goes back to my belief that there are no absolutes in using these kinds of tools, and that price and value are not always connected. Here's a plug-in that costs so little but offers so much for a basic, fundamental need -- being able to mix when monitors are not practical or possible for any number of reasons. There is no "the" headphone, of course, and presets are just starting points.

i dunno..
i think one absolute with this particular tool is that it cannot be judged instantaneously. logically....
a mix must be done through it, and then checked, preferably against other mixes.
to sit down with it on a master for two minutes and declare it great is stupid.

id almost agree about the beep being out of place.. but that is a matter of personal distaste i guess. i would agree that for mixing, a 15 second window of solid sound is not enough, imo.

I just bought Isone Pro, and I have a couple of questions.

1) In the surround version, it seems that to get a normal stereo mix when listening to normal stereo material, the L,C,R only and ITU stereo downmix are the choices to use?

2) In the manual, the various cabinet simulations are also listed with matching subwoofers and says it's surround version only, but what does that mean? Does it mean when you choose that cabinet simulation while using the surround version, it includes the subwoofer? I compared the cabinet selections between the regular and surround versions, and they sound the same to me. So what's the deal with the listed matching subwoofers for each cabinet choice? There doesn't seem to be a way to "activate" the subwoofers in the surround version. Also, there are sub/sat (low-end) and sub/sat (high-end) choices in the surround version, and I'm assuming they are generic sub _ satellite simulations? They are not listed in the manual.

You just described the recommended methodology for using studio monitors. :P

This quote is admittedly taken a bit out of context, for which I apologize (but not too much).

My suggestion is a Mac OS version of Isone Pro.

I'm absolutely dead certain that it would be worthwhile from a business point of view.

Best regards,

Joachim
If it were easy, anybody could do it!
