I just bought Isone Pro, and I have a couple of questions.

1) In the surround version, it seems that to get a normal stereo mix when listening to normal stereo material, the L,C,R only and ITU stereo downmix are the choices to use?

Yes, or use the full 5.1 normal setting; the C, Ls, Rs, and LFE
channels will be empty when using the surround version on a stereo track,
so they won't 'hurt' to leave them on, other than some additional CPU load.

2) In the manual, the various cabinet simulations are also listed with matching subwoofers and says it's surround version only, but what does that mean? Does it mean when you choose that cabinet simulation while using the surround version, it includes the subwoofer? I compared the cabinet selections between the regular and surround versions, and they sound the same to me. So what's the deal with the listed matching subwoofers for each cabinet choice? There doesn't seem to be a way to "activate" the subwoofers in the surround version. Also, there are sub/sat (low-end) and sub/sat (high-end) choices in the surround version, and I'm assuming they are generic sub _ satellite simulations? They are not listed in the manual.

Hence the subwoofer does not function as a bandwidth extension
for the other loudspeakers (in case that would be needed).

The 2 sub/sat presets work slightly different. For these presets,
all low-frequency signals (from LFE, but also from Lf, Ls, C, Rf, Rs)
are reproduced by the subwoofer, while only the remaining high-frequency part
is reproduced by small sattelite speakers (reproducing the typical
consumer-grade 5.1 setup).

Is there a reason why you dont increase the pricing and port your apparently amazing plugins to OSX?

It's good that you offer quality stuff at a give away price, but would love to use Isone on my iMac as I have to say that Redline Monitor really isnt doing the trick!

More questions regarding the matching subs for the cabinet simulations:

So if I'm using the surround version but only listening to stereo material, then I would hear no difference between the surround and regular versions, but if I'm listening to surround material that contains a LFE channel, then I will hear a difference? (The regular version will not playback surround material properly, while the surround version will, including proper reproduction of the LFE channel?)

The two sub/sat presets--what are the distinguishing characteristics that makes one high-end and the other low-end? Perhaps you should include them in the manual?

BTW, there's a preset that says it's your favorite. What do you like about it?

For stereo content, the surround and stereo versions of Isone
should give very similar (if not identical) results (which is to be
expected since the two front speakers are a subset of a full 5.1 setup).

The differences in the low/high end subwoofer/satellite simulations
is mostly in the frequency range of the loudspeakers (see manual,
page 14). The low-end setting doesn't reproduce the low frequencies
as well as the high end setting, and the crossover point between
subwoofer and sattelites is higher for the low-end simulation.

Indeed, I included the settings that work well for me as a person
(in terms of localization and distance) as a preset, mostly for
my own convenience

Resistance is frugal, but in this case, it's just foolish.

To figure it out and really make it work means - reading the manual - and going through the calibration steps. Horrible, I know. But worth it. So worth it for a can guy. Where's your Can-do attitude?

djeroen - I was wondering, how come Isone Pro doesn't have a control for the angle of the speakers? This is something I think is sorely lacking, and one of the things I liked about Redline Monitor. I really think if you added speaker angle/width control, Isone Pro will be even more useful. Right now, Isone Pro's stereo imaging is a bit too narrow compared to my speaker setup, while Redline Monitor is closer because it has speaker width control (but overall Isone Pro still sounds more natural and convincing).

Indeed, the current version only supports the
'perfect' loudspeaker position (according to ITU standards).

I'll take the suggestion to make this flexible into consideration
for future updates, thanks!

this seems to work for me
