Not really. The difference in phase isn't just limited to distance from the source, frequency response plays a big part. So the minute you throw that second mic on a cab, it's never going to be perfectly in phase with the first across the entire length of the frequency response even if the distance is the same. Unless of course both mics were the same type and perfectly matched pairs.

But...Peter already said there is a way to lock the distance of both mics, so I assume that's sort of what you're asking for.

Yes, and we even mention in the manual that there could be phase issues/comb filtering like in the real world and that it can be desirable under certain circumstances. So, it is left to you to either leave in or fix :) I think it is quite cool since that's well worth having as a potentially useful tonal tool while we still have the convenience of having an instant assistant engineer to move mics for us.

Great work on those videos, Dimi! Wow, you really do have a knack for dialing in tone and your playing is great as usual.

Thanks Peter! :)
Ok, here is another quick vid

Man, this speaker - cab module is incomparable

Thanks Dimi, as on another forum I will ask you to PLEASE give us some presets when you can. Peter, will we get our downloads today? It is Wednesday, and we are ready. Thanks

Just on the phase and comb filtering thing - a tone is a tone is a tone. If you like it, great - if you don't, keep screwing with it till you do!

Take a look at the Fender Jazz bass. It has two single coil pickups in parallel which if you listen to one at a time hum like a bastard in a noisy environment. One of the most commonly used sounds from a Jazz bass is with the two pickups up full since they are hum canceling in that situation.

Well, look at the phase issues there - this is just like the two mics situation. You will have the fundamental adding in both pickups (weaker from the bridge pickup than the neck) but get up a few harmonics and you will start finding that on some notes the pickups are picking up signals getting toward 180 degrees out of phase. There will thus be notches and bumps all over the midrange depending on which string is fretted where. Is this a problem? Not really - it is all part of the character of the Jazz Bass which is one of the most popular instruments of all time.

cliftone, I will upload presets of course!

Cheers,
Dimi

Sweet! Very nice so far. I love that Orange amp too. I was most excited for it before it was modeled, but I got hooked on all the others too. I guess THAT says more than the fact that I too love that Orange. They're all great, and the FAC on the Orange is sometimes puzzling in nature (kind of reminds me of a Varitone control as far as functional category as well as being a bit perplexing to people) but sounds phenomenal.

Yeah, it is amazing how it responds on my picking and how hard I hit the stings :)

Sounds great Dimi. What are your string guages there?

yeah the playability and musicality aspects need to be experienced (or relayed by an experienced player like Dimi I suppose!) to realize we aren't just BSing some marketing point there.

Ok, then let us experience it! Really, I'll go on hating IK and then "seeing the light" if that's what it takes! Been a quiet follower here, but I'm tired of refreshing my browser!

I mean, it's snowing outside today so the whole state of Tennessee is going to shut down. My wife is at work and I woke up early today and have nothing to do for hours. What better than this, eh? :hihi:

hehehe... soon, Jedi, soon. The demo will be out surprisingly soon and we're at the limit for beta at the moment. I only have so much power :P

Post

Hehe, I know. It's cool. Just thought I would chime in on the excitement!

By the way, I haven't read everything in this thread, so maybe I missed it. And I haven't done an exact comparison(in other words, I'm lazy). But how much overlap is there with this and Fender? Any gear duplicated?

No problem at all. As far as Fender goes, both AmpliTube Fender and Ampeg SVX are still sold as separate products but they integrate directly and tightly into AmpliTube 3's open architecture. They do benefit from the new features, of course, and you can see some of those great features in the videos we did as "teasers" and Dimi's videos which are awesome.
