There seems to be have been a bit of a free for all regarding the use of effects this time around.

Unless I've misunderstood the rules, I thought that we were limited to reverb, EQ and dynamics/mastering type stuff - and that's it!

So, no delays (synth1 already has one) and phasers, chorus, filters etc. are all out of bounds too.

@ shroomfeverish, just out of interest, not wanting to be OSC police (as Vger often says  ) which of the Kore Player fx presets did you use? I have KP and, after going through the free presets for the last OSC, I couldn't find any that I felt didn't transgress the rules (save for a couple of delays, they're all kind of multifx, or granular etc and really pretty radical transformation type stuff). And you didn't really answer steplton's question: which particular plugins did you use (you've only provided a list of developers)?

Post

No delays? Damn, in that case, I transgressed, too... :(
I must say, however, that the delay I used and the way I used it is actually basically identical to what is called PP in the delay section of Synth1 - that is, just a plain panning repetion which could be obtained even by multiple instances of the synth, so I don't honestly feel that gave me a lot of advantage
Still, I should have read the rules better, so if you want I can re-record the track with the internal delay (it'll take me a few days, though, due to my dayjob). Let me know.

Post

Mac, I don't think that the kind of use you've described is pushing the boundaries too far - if you could have achieved just about identical results within the rules it's no a big deal, at least, far as I'm concerned.

Post

Thanks Hakey - I'll wait of course for the other opinions, as of course, even if it didn't change the sounds or the musical result one bit, it isn't strictly by the book... :( I re-read the rules accurately now, and for the rest I' clean ;-)

Post

Hmmm, I must admit I haven't been paying a great deal of attention to the fx used by entrants, but yeah, the permitted fx were more limited this comp in view of Synth1's built in range of fx.... and right now, I have a horrible cold, so dont care an awful lot about anything :( :hihi:

Orbik, I take it you want me to remove an earlier version of your track?

Post

OK, I didn't have time to finish my track, but I thought I had something cool enough to share, even if it's not finished. It's called Nucleus-1.

(Sorry Tattiemannie - I slightly fudged it up again - I forgot to add the artist name to the mp3  )

Just to be as correct as possible, here's a comparison between Synth1's delay and the delay I used (sorry, I'm working, didn't have time to find exactly matching settings, but I think it's enough to give you an idea) - again, I don't feel it made any difference at all, since they both do the very same thing in the same elementary way, but if the majority should feel otherwise, I'll re-record the track

I apologize for this, it was allowed in the previous osc's and I just missed that bit of the rules this time, my fault entirely :(

Post

FWIW, I have no problem with that Mac.

Not that I'm really bothered about other folk bending the rules - I'm not in this to win it (and, having heard the competition, that's probably just as well :hihi: ).

Post

Not doing this to win is part of this competition's spirit, I guess
However, rules should be respected, otherwise it turns into a sort of showcase and not a challenge... :?

Cheers for the submission hakey! :) .. and good luck!

Re fx and rules, I just want to add, that although I set them, and I am always willing to give guidance, I only flap about it if I feel the ol' sound transformation thing is breached.

I dont listen to the tracks til they are all in, so I cant comment ... but at the end of the day, the lists of whats used are there for all to see, and judge accordingly when the votes are up for grabs ....

However, If anyone who has already submitted a track feels they need more time to 'clean up', then gimme a shout ... the deadline for submissions is now about 8 hrs and 15 mins away, but looking at the 'lie of the land' re. other stuff I have to do, the voting thread may not appear for a good 24 hrs after that! ... so between deadline and voting thread post, I'm happy for reups to be done .... but only for the purpose of 'cleaning up' re. rules, and only if I get a PM in advance of doing this.

EDIT ...
shroomfeverish, reading back, I have to agree with hakey in that you have not given sufficient info re the types of fx you have used. As I have very often said, I am happy to tolerate a degree of rule bending, as I know some others are, but I'm a lot happier if the bending .. or even breaking is laid bare! I cant recall exact tracks, but in the past, I know I have given reviews and the odd vote to tracks which, despite the specific rule bending, have still done enough with the featured synth to merit my positive attention. So, while I am not going to demand you remix your track, it would be super if you could redo your info text to give us a better picture of the types of fx you employed. :)

Tattie, I'm really pressed for time right now, so I'm gonna ask you about my delay thing, what you decide I have to do, I will (hey, you're the boss around here ;) )
