To my ear they are completely different. Just download the demo of Drumaxx and try out the 70s acoustic presets. You'll never get sounds like that out of uTonic.

With that said, uTonic is an excellent drum machine for unnatural drum sounds.

It looks like there's some growing pains for Drumaxx on the Mac (which are being debugged we are told). uTonic works fine on the Mac today.

Pricewise - if you get Drumaxx right now it's as low as $13. uTonic is much more expensive.

$13 barely gets you a decent dinner at a sit-down restaurant. It's one heck of a deal. You owe it to yourself to at least try the demo.

It works in Cubase 5
Drumaxx says trigger key - C5
But it is C3 who is the trigger
I don't know if it is drumaxx or Cubase who causes it.
When drumaxx says C5 use C3 - C#5 use C#3 etc.
You can just draw the notes in the piano roll.
Remember Drumaxx only plays as long as the note value
If you want to play 1 bar, make the trigger note 1 bar long
If you want to play 4 bars, make the trigger note 4 bars long

I love Microtonic, of course I'm aware of it's limitations.
It's natural, one machine can't do everything.

My sound interface is screwed up right now. And I couldn't get myself (until now) to listen to the demo songs. Almost all demo songs of various VSTi hurt my ears (really physically). Who are those people that make them?

Anyway, some of the Drumaxx demo songs remind me of Minimal House. Which would be in my direction. House, Dance, Electronic Dance Music.

And then, it's interesting to hear some opinions.

Will Drumaxx have significance in Dance Music?

I noticed when I had the demo, I thought it does nice minimal house sounding stuff...I'm not into minimal house but I think it's very usable for lots of different electronic dance music, I wouldn't of bought it otherwise...

We will add Drumpad VSTi again in the next installer hoping it makes up a little for the Logic mess.
Awesome!! :)

The single drumpad vst version was the reason I bought it. And I just freaked out when I installed the full version and the single drumpad was missing. Of course I removed the beta/pre-release already so I can't revert back to that either. But I can wait until the next release of course.

Great product! Thank you ImageLine

I'm using Cubase 5, and have no problem playing it from a keyboard, or having it play any of my current MIDI files, but dang if I can find a way to either record it playing it's internal midi loops or exporting those loops to the host for playback.

What am I missing? Thanks

I think they said that it's in the wish list.
So, if I'm hearing this correctly, I just have to hit the right MIDI note (C3?) to get the loops going within my sequencer.

And exporting is on the wish list, right?

So many plugins, so little time...

Been playing with Drumaxx for 2 days now. As a Utonic owner (and fan) I can say that Drumaxx is different. For me, actually better. But, if you have utonic, getting Drumaxx will not be a redundant experience. Both are good, and both are the best at what they do. For the types of things I do, if I had to choose between the two, I would choose Drumaxx. But I would not want to loose utonic, I'm happy to have both....

BTW, I have had utonic for about 4 years.... I use it in about half of the things I do... right now I can't imagine making a song without using Drumaxx..... very cool...

Each Loop has its one trigger key
and the loop only play the note duration.
In Cubase you can freeze the track
and you export the track or tune to wave, as you do with other VST instruments. The only difference is that the Midi are not the drum note you play, but they represent and triggers the the loops,Midi notes triggers the loops you have saved in drumaxx.

They are different. But Drumaxx cam make more sounds with minimum effort and sounds itself are very unique and not reproducible in other drumsynths.

Yes, and don't forget that some presets got variations assigned to different keys (C#3,D3...).

As for midi exporting, someone asked for it a couple of days ago and they said that it could be included in the next version. No time frame, though.

Thanks!
All my presets are in fxp form, and i want to keep it that way, plus i wont be using the full Drumaxx for anything, so a vst Drumpad is exactly what i need.

Dumaxx is really nice and allows for some impressing sounds.
I just wish it had the option to automatically start playing when the host starts playing, It already stops on host stop.
I want to freely use Drumaxx in a live situation, selecting and editing patterns, tweaking drums and the like but still have it locked tight to other running sequences. This makes the idea of having to use midi notes for clip selection as a means of synchronisation somewhat unfeasible.

I already posted a thread along these lines in the Image-Line forum.

I'd really like to apologize for the problems you seem to have been experiencing with our Mac products. It's no excuse but the Mac market indeed is relatively new to us compared to the almost two decades we have been doing PC software but I really hope we'll iron out the edges here.

I will personally see to it that the products you bought either work or get refunded. Don't hesitate to bug me about this through PM. This goes for other users that experience problems as well.
I work on mac and drumaxx is stable (cubase 5 , osx 10.5. 8 ) , does this guys run windows on his mac?
The problem is with the AU version. The VST is fine.

JMC wrote: The official statement is that the AU is indeed having some serious problems here. We are working on this as hard as we can and we'll bring a solution as soon as possible (hopefully during this weekend).

Hello Drumaxx Team!
Any news about the AU update ?
Save the Logic users!
