You get one free with Amplitube 3.

Ahhhh... now I get it.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Since this is a hobby for me, I guess I still mostly feel the challenge of making the music itself so the thought of mixing it is something in my future. Having the option of a free plugin brought this to a head. The fun of it is that I don't have to the direction of an artist or pro. But then trying to pick gear becomes difficult. So I appreciate all of your input and suggestions.

My faves have always been Opto, Pultec, and Fairchild. The Opto is modeled after a compressor our CTO (and lead brains behind our technology of course) and it is really spectacular. I used Opto and Pultec on a simple little noodly bit through an AmpliTube 3 Rezo/Small Stone patch I was playing with recently: http://storage.tinytoaster.com/RezoSyrup2_1.mp3 - the Fairchild gave it a bit too much of the harmonic distortion thing going on since I already had the amp breaking up and also the Rezo pushing it in a sometimes weird but good way. Especially the tinnier parts which were just switching to the bridge humbucker for tonal experimentation.

Hey Peter: now that amplitube3 is out is x64 support for singles, amplitube, etc. next on the docket for IK??

Honestly I have no idea. I think we're going to skip right to the 128-bit version :P I know that there are things we've been talking about like SampleTank 3 and maybe some more Singles and some things for the next AmpliTube update, and 64-bit is on the radar but again we're really following the DAW market and some other key indicators there.

If I stand on the corner with a "BUY MOOR AMPLITOOB" sandwich board and get us like 15,000 units sold maybe they'll hope right to the 64-bit thing after those are booked. Wanna help? Grab the paint and the wood! :)

How about an LA2A or space echo single to tide us over until the 64 bit release? :hihi:

Nice sounding guitar piece btw.

I just heard some interesting related things that, if they do come to fruition will be amazing. But for now - I stand with Opto, Pultec, Fairchild for my recommendation :)

I hear you Peter. Unfortunately I'm not going to paint the sign as I have a strict 'not buying anything that isn't x64' rule. That's *my* way of helping plugin develoers hop to x64. ;)

If you use reaper, then x86 bridge works fine

(ducks from all the tomatoes being thrown.....even by reaper users....)

To be clear with jbridge my existing t-racks singles work fine in cubase. But I will not spend any more $$ on plugs that aren't x64. I bought the singles when I was still x86 (during the group buy). Something about not having to do cross-process bridging is attractive to me. And it's not officially supported so I suppose at any moment they could be broken by a cubase or IKMM update.

Another vote for the Opto here. It's fine on guitars and great on bass, keys, and vocals.

I'm trying to make the same choice between the opto and pultec, whats the main characteristic the opto has that everyone likes so much? just a nice compressor or does it warm up the sound or what, have to say I didn't really like the fairchild on my voice with an at3035 but the pultec really warmed up the sound in nicer way.

My favorite VST in the T-racks bunch is the classic comp. I must be alone on this one, the classic comp has a canny ability to take flat sounding music off your DAW mix and into a different field of character vibrato. It literally picks your music off the DAW and into a more 3d character field.

One of favorite comps in the T racks arsenal, it has a subtle dynamic field, I hate that live 8 has a hard time recognizing a lot of T-racks plugs.

I think one of the reasons is that it's more of universal tool/jack of all trades, where as the fairchild requires a bit more work and isn't always welcome in every situation (you can always find work for the opto!). I also find the m/s harder to work with on it whereas the m/s on the opto seems to be more intuitive imho.

@pultec: Wonderful subtleties, have you tried the m/s yet? Wow, for drums this something I really like :D

Can you tell I really like m/s :hihi:
