'Tis exciting to watch (and hear?) these amazing technologies unfold:

I've tried most of them so far.

Conclusion..

Making music on a smart phone is a shit experience.

I disagree spaceman. I have bought some apps which kick butt and are VERY cool for the iphone.

This one looks INSANE!

Saw it, bought it, loaded it, love it! Thanks for the heads up. 8)

Now I've got;
Beat maker for quality sample fun
Music Studio for accurate composing
Thumbjam for spontaneous ideas.

All I need now is an iTouch that can go three days without recharging! :?

I was going to come in here and correct you that the best iPhone app is Thumbjam- but it seems you got it right the first time! 8)

-amazing responsive keyboard- especially for drums

-amazing acoustic and electronic samples- sounds better than many hardware romplers!

-cool sampler with pitch detection and lovely resonant sound

-amazing selection of scales

-amazing loop/mixing

and soon [this week] audio copy/paste from other synth apps that can be used as samples for instruments and played chromatically!

I also use Jasuto Pro/ Dopplerpad/ Noise.io but from now on will I likely be sampling audio from the later two and play them inside Thumbjam- it has by FAR the best interface of any app

I have to admit that it does look like fun.

Bought it.

AMAZING!!

I just did a 3 mile walk and jammed the entire time. I literally did not notice the time once - I was so absorbed and having so much fun that I was at my doorstep before I even knew it!

Cool fact: start your ipod music and then load in thumbjam - now you can jam to your music! The cool and portable way to learn to play to your favorite songs.

For $7, this is a STEAL!

I just wish it had auto/manual quantizing for loops so that they are always in beat.

indeed ... i don't understand that trend hype around i phone music apps in general ... we waited our asses off for monitors and processors on steroids to become afordable, now suddenly we shall do our music on a few inches on screen with a processor that my old 7200 mac would laugh about???

i just don't understand it ... must have to do with the new perceivement of music/music making in general: it's worth nothing, so anyone can do it anyway ...

because you can't take a desktop and monitor and power generator
on the train, plain, or autmobile.

The iPhone/touch has many many uses for music, reference apps, mobile recording, sketch pads, sight Reading/theory apps.

The list goes on and on.

Regarding thumbjam like dopplerpad it lacks quantize, a major oversight indeed.

How much drive space do all those samples take up?

The thumbjam is 128MB

Considering the quality, it amazes me.

I think it's an age thing; all the youngsters want the latest 'must have'. I'm with Kriminal - I got my PC and Cubase for making music. When I'm on the tube or train, I'll read a book or just simply relax; you don't HAVE to do something 24/7. :D

edit - I just checked the video - I think it looks shite.
