Well I was only kidding about working on the limerick... but then I went ahead and developed it anyway...

There once was a Reverend who counted
his play by plays truly astounded
as each one was saved
he shouted their name
the group cheered with each price level surmounted

Not to break up the poetry fest, but I have some questions that maybe you guys can help with:

1. Do you have any tips on deciding between Bundle I (last GB) and Bundle II (this GB)?

It appears to me that this group buy has a bit more variety in the kits, but I'm also a huge Genesis fan and really like the sounds of those Collins kits.

2. Is it easy to install these samples on an external hard drive?

I've got a 7200 rpm external (USB 2.0) drive that I'd like to use for them. I assume that'll work for these...?

3. Do you get plenty of time to download the files?

I know they normally keep the downloads in your account...are they doint the same for this GB.

4. Will I spend more time trying out kits than making music if I get these?

Ok, ok....that's a question for me to figure out.

Thanks for any replies and general advice.

Let me try...
1. I don't know as much about the drums in this GB, but the first group is awesome! I think it may be best to listen to the demos for both, and see if that helps.

2. External drive will work if it's fast enough.

3. You get as long as you need to download. It stays in your account.

4. Yes, you will waste time, but it's fun!

1. There are a few differences... the first one includes Ocean Way Drums, which are a slightly different vibe from the drum masters stuff. If you want that, you want the first one. The second though includes a few 'odd' things like rototoms, octabans, timbales, etc that aren't anywhere in the first GB iirc. It also includes more midi grooves and ambiences than the first GB.

And then there's the extras... the first GB had a bunch of extras above what's still available as the first GB bundle (you can get some of it by paying an extra $50 for the DVD option.. think it's still available). But this one will likely get some extras too, as just part of the GB price, assuming it takes off like the last one did. You already get one extra MT kit for being one of the first 200. So the second one might be a better deal.

However... don't forget, if you don't already have the infinite player, you will need that too. That's $50, but you could get the other GB for $99 instead and get a free infinite player PLUS have all the extra kits of the other GB. Complicates things a bit I know :)

2. I am running mine off a cheap external USB 5400 drive, and haven't had any issues so far. Haven't used it very intensively, but have done finger drumming, and played some of the more complex midi grooves, no issues.

We are now at 161.

If you were in the first group buy, then this one is very attractive. This is more of the same great stuff! If you weren't in the first GB, then you'll need to do some listening, and maybe asking questions. chroma made good points about the differences. Squids will have a unique perspective... I'm sure!

BTW, have you at least skimmed the entire thread? I know there is some foolishness, but buried in the thread are some deals... some offers by Squids.

If I'm remembering correctly....

So I mainly finger drum, but i recently bought used a very cheap piece o junk edrumset by ion (i know, i know) from craigslist, just so i could have something to hit.

the internal sounds that come with the ion suck. the ion also has very little in terms of (i) sensitivity to where on the snare or highhat or whatever that you hit, which means that in effect hitting the snare is basically just like hitting the D note on your keyboard, the highhat the f#, Ab, or Bb, etc. ok, so that's the background for what i am about to tell you -- my edrum kit is incredibly inexpressive and when i use the built in drumsounds, it sounds like a crappy drum-machine (machine-gun effect and all).

but when i midi it up and play it through logic with the drumkits from the first group buy, it sounds amazing. just amazing -- even though the drums i am banging on has no more expressive potential, the drum scripting for sounds in the groupbuy is so good with the alts and round robins and whatever that it sounds very lifelike even though a rim short on the snare is triggering a D-midi note just as much as a center shot, left shot, or whatever.

and these drums are awesome to finger drum with -- but with areal vdrum kit capable of using all the scripting.... well, i can't even imagine how good they would sound.

so in short, the drum sounds from the first group buy have blown my mind with their quality. and i expect the second gb will be just as good, and that's why i joined.

and why my wife is taking the credit card away in case there is a third.
Why'd you slice off my hand?
