These are out of production now as Boss went to the GT series (as Guitarists wanted pedals for live work) so Ebay is your best bet - it's where I got mine from last year.

I love my GS-10 - I'm working on a new website for this great piece of hardware cause I do believe they're not a dead horse. A Preset sharing/Forum type site. I own most all the high-dollar Amp Sims (actually bought 90% of them) - including:

Amplitube 2
Amplitube Fender
Amplitube Hendrix
Amplitube Metal
Amplitube X-Gear
Guitar Rig 3 (soon to buy 4)
Nomad's Rock Amp Legends
Waves GTR

and a bunch of Plug-In only sims too both Free and commercial. I also use Logic Pro 9 on my Mac system and Sonar Producer 8.5 and Studio One on my WIndows 7 machine and use their built-in sims... I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO BUY ANY OF THESE if I would have known about the GS-10. It has everything you'd ever need including a PRISTINE 24/44.1 USB Interface, a midi interface - Mic inputs too - basically every effects pedal known to man and enough Amps to keep you busy forever. There is also an EDITOR software and LIBRARIAN software to load new presets into it and design your own from scratch - I've collected hundreds from around the net and the Clean and the High-Gain settings are simply amazing sounding - better than most Amp Sims and whisper quiet thanks to the built-in noise gates.

If you can find one GRAB IT! You'll be one happy camper I promise you. I use mine everyday and I actually have a bedroom full of amps, effects, etc but now my computer and my Boss is all I need to have a great time.

There's also NEW Windows and Mac drivers for it too including 64-bit ones.

Any why are you buying Guitar Rig 4 if the hardware is all you need?

Just wondering. I think you are also missing that there are obvious advantages to using something like AT3 over this hardware.

(I have no idea about the hardware, as I haven't used it)

AT3 can't even come close to replacing my hardware Johnson J Station. In fact no software I've tried can create the tone I get from the JS. In this area I remain a hardware snob.

The GS 10 looks interesting. Shame they are out of production.

is the J Station analog ??? I always thought it'd be digital like all the other POD type devices.... ..

oh and btw be aware that if it's discontinued that there won't be (most likely) no new drivers for newer OSes...

I doubt that. The Boss COSM amp/cab modelling is crap. I've had a GT-6 and a GT-8 and no way they could compete with Amplitube when it comes to direct recording.

I disagree but oh well... I have 3 tube amps, 2 SS, 2 other M.E. pedals including a Toneworks and a Zoom - a few pedals, but this GS-10 is amazing to me - and I'm not Tone deaf. I'm 58 and have played guitar since the 60's so I do know what amps sound like too. I do use impulses though for my cabs as IR's rule.

I have to agree. Had GT-8 for about six months and got rid of it without regrets.

Digital doesn't do guitar well at all. I'm completly convinced! What about the Sans Amp? Solid state, ok, at least its analog..

I got a bunch of real amps too, and if I had to use either Amplitube 3 or a Boss COSM modeller, I'd use AT3.

In my honest opinion, COSM is the reason people are so skeptical of modelling - because COSM sounds like garbage.

I'm glad you found something you like, but to be honest I find Roland's COSM to basically sound like crap. I've had it in many units including a Boss VF-1 and currently in my Roland SonicCell. I know, unlike you seem to, that sound quality is very subjective, but in my subjective opinion, the amp models sound horrible.

I'm a big Amplitube fanboi, but it hasn't always been that way, when I made the transition from real amps (for size/volume/recording reasons) I ended up with an old Digitech 2120. It had lived in my amp's effect rack for a while before I started using it sans amp with varying degrees of success. I seem to remember thinking the effects were good and I could get some good high-gain transistor amps but a good crunch or just overdriven sound were beyond the realm of the 2120.

I tried a few Line6 amps and modelers and frankly I hated them. Something oddly artificial about them all and until this day I hear that weirdness in POD Farm (note: I have an NFR copy of POD Farm) but there are actually some interesting things in that package and I love the weird synth models. But long before POD Farm, I got sick of my 2120 and went a-hunting for a good all-in-one floor based amp modeler. I tried them all. The Boss, of the day, (IMO of course) was one of the worst. Horrible. I can't remember the Boss model but while it had great effects the amps were terrible. Line 6 had one that was OK. There was a Behringer thing that was better and even the J-Station was decent. (I used to have a Johnson Jt60 that I thought was really pretty good) VOX (see also Korg/Marshall) was the one that won out by a long shot. After an extensive search I went home with a Vox Tonelab SE and I'll vouch for it. But it wasn't without warts. I never liked its reverb or chorus effects. It's stomp boxes were scattered between very good and meh. I wanted an a-in-one solution and I didn't get it. Enter the Boss VF-1. While hating it's amp models, it had great digital effects that synced to a midi clock (Important).

But it still wasn't a single solution and it sure didn't do bass amps well. Crappy. I tried a few bass solutions including that Pandora box, but I never dug it.

Then I found Amplitube SVX. Holy crap. After hearing Guitar Rig I thought, "well if this is the best computer modeling has to offer, it sucks." Then when some group buy thing was going on I thought I'd see if it was a decent supplement to my Vox. It blew me away. I instantly had a sound that was better than my bass had sounded in years when I got rid of my Hartkey. But you got a second pack free! So I tried Amplitube 2. After that my Vox started collecting dust. While it was good it just didn't have the depth and breadth that the AT2/SVX combo had. Metal was released soon after and I was on it as was I with AT Fender. I didn't just turn a blind eye to the competition either. Part of the process of buying AmpliTube was looking to see if it was better than the competition. IMO, the only thing that comes close to it is the SoftTube amp sims and their expense and meager offerings kept me away from buying them.

Anyway, so now AmpliTube 3 is out and the bar has been raised again. Good luck with your Boss thingee. Considering you're the only positive review I've ever heard of a COSM based amp model you should never have a problem finding one cheap.

Actually, if you've been playing guitar since the 60s its likely that you started at... 5 or 10 years old? Maybe you're just deaf. I worry about this myself. I just read something that links regular analgesic use (asprin) to hearing loss in men. Crap, my wife and I've been taking low doses of asprin at bed time because it's supposed to be good for your heart.

I'll add a positive review for the Boss GS-10.

Besides the sound quality being quite useful, the sheer number of possibilities inside it, and it's multiple connectivity options [live amp...direct interface...stand alone amp sim...in conjunction with software] only add to it's versatility.

However, I wouldn't recommend the GS-10 as the final solution to capturing the ultimate guitar tone, because to promote it as the only option is just as wrong as to totally discount it as an option.

I'm impressed with Aplitube 3.

But, right now it's benefiting from "hottest, latest, newest toy status."

We all know that after Amplitube 3 there is always going to be something else...and something else...and something else.

As well as software amp sim options, I have a studio rack full of guitar/bass/acoustic guitar equipment, and for me, personally, the closest to finding the perfect guitar tone is in a combination of hardware and software.

I've used Nomad Factory's Rock Amp Legends quite a bit...but always with some hardware pedal(s), including the GS-10, in front of it.

Everyone that's ever played guitar has chased "The Ultimate Guitar Tone" since, at least, the birth of amplified [guitar] music...and in actuality, most likely, a lot longer.

So, yes, Amplitube 3...yes GS-10...yes [fill in the name of your favorite here].

Okay, sorry if I seemed to slightly hijack the thread.

I wanted to substantiate my positive review of the GS-10 beyond a simple "+1."

If you find one at a good price, I'd definitely recommend you pick it up and give it a try.

Who knows, plugged in front of Amplitube 3 it might give you "The Ultimate Guitar..."

I have the VG99. It's okay, even great sometimes but then so they are most ampsims these days.

I'm finicky as everybody else about tone. My favorite setup would be a 4x10 Bassman with a distortion and a overdive pedal plus some delay for doubling, i would be set then. Versatile at the studio, practical on stage. Sounds sweet too.

Then other questions arise like how and where to capture its sound. So the best emulation i have found of the Bassman is on the line6 plug, it would be my favorite. Nevertheless the overdrive and distortions would be there to get close to a Marshall or the likes, well Marshall type thing still is the Simulanalog the closest one...

This emulation crap is really anti creative, both for coders and guitarists. Why they don't focus on give their best idea of what they think it should be a guitar sound. Get past the emulation business.
If people are so keen on a Marshall running a 4x12 closed cabinet, they sure know they have to get one... Plus the skills to record it.

A true amp is something that interacts a lot with the guitar, finding the right amp for the right guitar is no easy task. Ampsims can be a more all rounder thing but still I\O and converters got to play a huge role in the end result.

I will not part from my VG99. Still i dream of a Bassman plus a Koch power soak device... I got neighbors, really nice people i don't want to disturb, however ampsims are great, sometimes just incredible. They manage to please me a lot.

My favorites are TH1, AT2\3, Line6 and Simulanalog, not in that particular order. Even others i haven't named are great on certain styles or tasks. I just try to find there a unique thing by tweaking it to infinity, so i don't end up sounding like everybody else with a net connection.
