Well, if you notice, a bunch of the gear that comes with AmpliTube isn't an emulation of anything. Custom Solid State Clean, Custom modern High Gain, etc. Also the ability to use a pre amp model from one amp and an eq model from another and yet a different cab model AND change the size of the cab... well there you have something totally new. If that's not enough creative play for you, I feel bad.

But you forget that the reason the classic amps are classic is because many years of engineering and trial and error went into getting them just right. Saying a hardware emulation of a Fender Twin is anti creative is like saying a good Strat copy is anti-creative.

I have one, I've never used it after getting GR4. I also demo'd amplitube 3 and I wouldn't use the Sans Amp if I had that either. One thing you can say is the Sans Amp doesn't haven't the digitalness, but that's about all you can say, it's dated equipment by all other measures. Avoiding digitalness is not really the goal. For example, a real amp that's bad/cheap won't sound digital, but it will still sound bad/cheap.

A tube amp is a lot more than tubes, the circuitry, cabinet, mics all have influence in the final result.

There are tube amps that are real dogs, i prefer Amplitube (EG) than them, like the Fender Deluxe reissue, however i know people who are proud owners of a Deluxe.

If one wants a classic sound or sounds isn't software kind of an emulation. :hihi:

I think it's about time that coders and musicians begun to look elsewhere than the classics. I mean why should be the measure of the usefulness of a algorithm to do whatever has been done before. Is this creativity?

Moog and Roland did something else in the hardware domain. Albeit Roland still is a digital thing.

In the past, I've experienced quite a bit of COSM. It sounds pretty good.

For regular guitar, I do like software ampsims better; but somewhat miss the 'easy-to-dial-in-bass-guitar-sounds' which are part of COSM.

With the COSM bass guitar sounds, it seemed like there was a bit of latency (processing overhead?); but bass guitar tones were at least, 'serviceable;' and again, no problem to 'dial in.'

COSM can be quite useful. It's probably a matter of what is done with it.

Sometimes, i think that the BR532 multitracker had better COSM than the BR864 or BR900CD. For one thing, there are some really interesting ('non-guitar') sounds in the 532. Later, 8-track models in the BR series dispensed with a couple of the cooler sounds (including an, 'Ertha Kittizer' vocal thingie). Also, the drums on the BR532 sound better than they do on later models. I don't know why, but that is just my impression.

I'd say, if a person wanted to mess with COSM, to round up a used BR532. I saw one on Ebay or somesuch for $99; and it had an extra memory card to boot.
So; used GS-10, used BR-532; not a bad way to spend $100 if you've got any spare change.

At least with the BR series of multitrackers, it's another decent, low-cost way of having a compact, mobile studio.

WE INTERUPT THIS THREAD FOR A BREAKING LAME JOKE

when I was little, like 4 or 5 I saw on romper room a thing about making an instrument using a shoe box and rubber bands (you cut a soundhole in the top of the of the box and wrap the bands around it). I want a sim that will produce that sound, which model should I try? If I was to make one what rubber bands would be best?

While I'm on the subject, I want to make a kazzoo with a comb and toilet paper...what ply should I use? No rush on either, I have a ways to go yet (well I hope).

You see I've decided at 50 instead of aging I'm going to digress as slow as possible, I wonder what going through puberty backwards will be like. Instead of losing my viginity on the way back some old lady is just gonna knock me upside my head a few times with her cain AND I LIKE IT. Of course "I wish I knew now what I knew then" will change entirely. But there will be some great times too, yup I'm a digressionist and proud of it. One day I'll be swimming around with all my buddies and have my tail back, but I'll be the only one playing a gi-tar.

Quoted For Truth. Plus, it appears to have been missed :) Also a chance to show that we really don't do 100% "classic" gear by telling the tale of the CTO whose hand-built Opto Compressor we modeled so people can have a virtual version of something they would most likely NEVER have at all and might as well not exist for all but one person on earth (but deserves to be used by many more!).

While there are many things that are "much the same" in this industry and others as well, it seems the artist is also still significantly responsible for abusing the tools at hand to create, as has been done since the beginning of the availability of creative tools. "Hey, we used to club animals with these things, but listen when you hit a rock with it!" Granted, some will say it is harder to do so with software/virtual stuff but personally I just think it is there to be misused in a different way.

I get some really good tones out of my VG-99.
Definetly on par with any software emulation.
Plus it can modell 2 guitars and convert my playing to MIDI at the same time.
Pretty amazing piece of gear really.

COSM, Tubes, Sims - it really isn't what you use - it's how you use it and if you have fun with it... I have a ball with my GS-10 and I'm into having fun in my old age.

I used to own a Boss BR1080 I think it was. It had COSM all over it; I was just was not much of a fan. I greatly preferred my PODxt Live, and the Metal Shop expansion amp Bomber (an Uberschall) was absolutely killer.

Neither make me as happy as my Ibanez Thermion. It's the most bang-for-the-buck modern high gain tube sound I've ever heard. :) I have to give IK some credit, though. Amplitube 2 sounded pretty damned good, and I haven't messed with the demo for 3, yet. I'm curious to see how Peavey's Revalver mkIII sounds, too. I've yet to mess with Guitar Rig in any incarnation.

But really, in the end, just play the guitar and enjoy it. Most people won't know what you used for the sound anyway, and won't care, as long as they think it sounds good.

If IK would give the Modern Tube Lead or Modern High Gain model with Amplitube Live I'd have been all over the AudioMIDI no-brainer. :hihi:
Meh.

I've found the yellow Charmin brand 2-ply gives the best results.

Absolutely agreed. VG99 is totally amazing and nothing comes close in the soft or hardware side, even the ampsims are very good. (all my ampsims L6, NI, IK, etc. even my axefx are sleeping long time)

What is good for one is bad for other, thats guitar life.

The GS 10 looks interesting. Shame they are out of production.
is the J Station analog ??? I always thought it'd be digital like all the other POD type devices.... ..

oh and btw be aware that if it's discontinued that there won't be (most likely) no new drivers for newer OSes...
