Greetings all. My 1st post. Great info and knowledge available here. Awaiting my arrival of my macbook 3.6/8gb/500gb,7200rpm machine and studio essentials too.I've been beating my head to the wall trying to decide on interface choices? I'll be using Logic studio 9.Recording myself mainly. Duet? TC TWin? DSP 24? I realize the Duet is what it is. A Great product. Finnaly here I find info on the DSP 24. So how is it working with the macbook pro now that you have used it for two months or so? Any Issues? Easy to use for a new guy on the block? The TC Twin and DSP 24 seem very similar. I'm new to home recording-my first investment and go at it. Salesman is pushing me to get DSP 24 over Duet(ins/outs) and says to avoid the Twin cause of driver issues and TC"s interfaces are not so "good". Any help? Suggestions?

If you need more audio inputs and midi then go for the Pro 24. I'm happy with mine. It sounds good. Sometimes I have to 'reset' the driver when the computer comes back from standby. Other than that, it's working as it should.

If you only need 2 inputs, don't need midi and want some high quality converters, the Duo is your best choice. It has also a nice integration with Logic 9.

Thanks, just what I suspected you might say. Midi,I can use via usb. Just if need to record myself and 1 more person- i only have one headphone from the Duet.But still, sounds to me the Duet is "best" for converters/pre-amps
over the DSP 24? Does the VRM tech in the DSP 24 help you in any way get "better" mixes than without it? Could you mix the same without VRM?

I don't have the DSP just the regular Pro 24. For mixing I'm using my Fostex monitors and IKM ARC. I don't use my headphones.

I realize I dont have a proper recording room or
enviorment, that is why i was looking hard into the DSP24. this site was really the only user reviews i could find on dsp 24 interface. Does the IKM ARC really make a difference in a untreated room? does it correct the sound going to the speakers or the daw? or both? i'll read up on it. you must find it extremely benificial than not using it? Do you record in a well treated room? IKM ARC-$469.00 musicians friend-same one you use? I have a lot to learn sorry for all the questions.I did choose the Duet in my purchase though, I'm kinda skeptical about not having two headphones out and no s/pdif. Thanks for your time and feedback.

Hi, I recently bought a saffire pro 24 DSP and I'm having issues with it.

The audio stream drops out every few seconds on my laptop, when hooked either to the built in 4-pin Ricoh FW, or to a dedicated Texas Instruments expresscard FW (windows 7 32 bit, all drivers up to date, all other devices disconnected in the device manager).


I'd like to assemble a desktop DAW that works with the saffire, so I'd really like satisfied owners of Saffire products to report here their hardware specs (motherboard models, CPU, RAM, FW PCI-X extension boards, power supply, operating systems), and the tightest ASIO settings at which the Saffire is stable (sample rate and asio buffer sizes).

I had a very similar problem (dropouts after a random amount of time) on an ASUS n80vm laptop which turned out to be an IRQ address conflict. I disabled 2 usb controllers on the same IRQ address, and my firewire audio device (focusrite saffire 24) works like a charm - no more dropouts. IRQ's are tricky to trace, but if you have dropouts while audio performance is good, I'd definitely read on :

For the record, I went through a few steps to get here :

• With an ASUS n80Vm, I wanted to use a focusrite saffire 24 firewire audio card
  Out of the box, the audio would play for anything up to 2 or 3 seconds before cutting out under any application.
  The onboard MIDI would drop out too.
  Changing latency or buffer settings had no effect.
  IT WAS CRAP and I was mightly pissed off.
  Scouring forums, I found a lot of people complaining about the Ricoh firewire chipset, and the fact that on newer machines with Express Card slots, this chipset manages the Express Card slot too. So I blamed Ricoh (unfairly)

  Got it, and nice it is, but it didn't fix anything.
  Tore some more hair out
  Wasted lots of time in the bowels of windows
  Updated my bios, and interestingly, the audio would stay on for much longer (up to about 30-60 secs sometimes) before cutting out. Hitting play again always restarted the audio as before.
  With bios updates, IRQs often get reshuffled, so I figured there was something else sneaking in and messing with the firewire clock.
  I got to thinking about interrupts, searched a bit and found the info on IRQ conflicts from M-Audio (links above)
  Looking at the device manager (read Maudio links), I disabled 2 usb controllers on the same IRQ address as my TI 1394 interface (19) and everything works!
  Interestingly, now the stock ricoh firewire interface works fine too even though it's on a different IRQ address...
  Since all IRQs above 15 are "virtual" and share real IRQ ports, conflicts are probably not as simple as they seem, but if you have dropouts that resolve once you hit play again like I did, you might want to check your computer for IRQ conflicts.
