I have bought into both group buys, and now I am considering getting some better edrums to play the sounds with. (I currently have a very cheap ION drum kit that I bought from craigslist to practice on.) But I don't have a lot of money to spend. Any recommendations on what to get? Like I said, don't have a lot of money to spend, so I want to get the best bang (no pun intended) out of my buck. I don't really care about the sounds that come with the edrums, since I will midi them up to my computer to play the group buy sounds. But good midi-triggering therefore matters more. What are you e-drummers out there using? thanks!
what exactly is your budget? the high end roland stuff the td-12 and td-20 are the only modules that have positional sensing i.e can detect your playing in the center moving to the outside of the snare and switch samples accordingly. but i think the cheapest you can get the td-12 would be around 3000 still. so roland wise you have the td-9 and the td-4 which are pretty decent bang for the buck compared to their older stuff. the main difference for you since you are using internal sounds is that the td-9 has a few extra trigger inputs and the td-4 is limited to kick, dual snare, 3 toms, ride and crash and maybe has one extra avail for another tom or crash. the 9 has a few extra. the td-4 starts around 1000.00 in the states and they go up a little if you want all mesh toms.

to be honest, not a hundred percent clear what my budget will be. but unfortunately i won't be able to spend 3000+ US dollars.... maybe i can spend up to 1000$, but i doubt even that. is it not even worth upgrading to, e.g., a 600-800$ kit? thanks for all the advice!

fwiw heres what im using - yamaha dtx-12 multipad (http://www.yamahasynth.com/products/ele ... x_multi12/) Its not a drumkit per se but i use it to trigger keyboard parts and percussion along with my acoustic drums. it has 4 mono trigger inputs and one that will work with a 3 way ride or 2/3 way snare type pad. i was trying to decide if i should just add some pads to it to make it more "kit like" or get the roland td-4 or td-9. i tested those kits just on feel, in other words how they would work to trigger software, not caring about the internal sounds. i wasnt super impressed although they have come a long way. for a real test though i would really need to have my laptop w/ me. Anyway the conclusion i came to was just to add some pads to the multipad i have and maybe someday i can get into the td-12/20 or yamaha dtx-900 big leagues. another thing to check out is the new pearl e-pro live - its an acoustic kit with these special trigger heads that go on just like normal heads. its out of your budget at 3100.00 but im hoping they will eventually sell just the trigger heads individually without the module or drums, then that might be the way to go if you already have an acoustic kit. they are actually teaming up with ocean way and toontrack and a bunch of the other big drum software companies to make special kits that will down load into their drum brain (which is actually a re-pained re-packaged alesis module). its a cool idea (although it only has 128mg ram) so you can basically load one "mega" kit into it at a time.

Get to 400 and you can pick out yet ANOTHER Multitrack kit of the 8 offered. The 8 MT kit choices are going to be amongst the following:

The first 4 MT kits from the last GB bonuses (in case you missed them or didn't get them all):

NDV Premier Kit
NDV Gretsch Kit
NDV Mapex Blasticks Kit
JB Sonor Kit

The 4 new choices are:

Bonzo Beat MT Kit
RingBeat MT Kit
British Rock MT Kit

and the fourth one at the moment is a wild card. It might be the Soul kit but it might be something else like the Classic Rock kit. It won't be one of the artist kits because it is a bonus freebie. It could be the Blues kit OR we might even make it a choice of 10 and put in all three of those as options.

If you can reach 500 then you will be able to select yet ANOTHER Multitrack kit plus there will be other added bonuses. But let's first get to 400. There's only two weeks left! But you can do it if you want to.

On another note, it looks like EpiK DrumS - A Ken Scott Collection AND Drum Masters 2 Multitrack will be released before the end of this month (maybe even toward the end of next week!). The free updates for DM1 users (kit to kit patch updates with new features) are finally going to be available soon as well. Time to celebrate.

There's also a global patch update coming (one more beta first) for the new hi hat feature for V-Drum. It really sucks that I got sick because that kind of slowed things down a bit. I would have had that today but I haven't been able to do much for the past few days and I have been sitting on that update since last Thursday. I have a pile up of things to okay before they go out the door... and I rarely get sick. But Zedd was right about over-working. Sometimes you push the lack of sleep too far and then BAM you owe back all the sleep! That's where I was for the past 3 days... in Squids Hybernation. But now I am back and we're gonna rock these last two weeks! YEAH!

Just for that enthusiasm alone we're going to make a choice out of 10 instead of 8. See how easy I am when I just get out of a fever? ;)

I'll tell you guys what I think is really cool about these drum kits and it has to do with some comments (not bad ones) members made about GB2 essentially saying about having too many drums. Yes I agree there's many and yes some overlap but I think that's the beauty of it all. Each song you make when using a different kit they always sound similar but always one thing or another is different whether it's a kick or snare or a different timbre of the ride cymbals. It makes the songs really stand out. The other day I was putting together for a project a sampling comp of some of my songs. As I listened back I noticed how the drums sounded really good and on every song they were slightly different. I suppose it's the guitar guy in me always using a different one, Strat, Tele, Paul, ES335 etc... so why shouldn't drums be any different? They rock Squids! So for $99 for all the kits and bonuses, just jump off the fence and dive in. Take advantage of Squid's good nature and get these before he realizes we're only friends with him because of his crazy Group Buys and not his stories  :D

WOO HOO!!!

I am a big fan of classic rock / NWOBHM / hair bands / etc., so these are great choices!

BTW...my eSoundz name is tman2k if anyone want to send some ePointz my way for getting it upped to 10 kits! :D

I'm on the page with all the other MT kits, but don't see the Blues kit. Where is it?

Thanks.

Thanks. But, wait, the sounds of the first GB and this Sequel do not overlap. These are different kits to expand and each has its own unique flavor. The key to having the variety (besides just for the fun of the variety of kits for inspiration) is to be able to swap kit pieces to make just the RIGHT kit for any musical situation you may be in. This is true production power! You're producing a song and you're thinking "man, I need a snare that goes POP! or PING!" and you dig through your collection and come across one that hits the nail on the head. Then you grab the ultimate kick... with STm kits anyway it is all about the hybrid kits.

With the Multitrack kits it is about manipulating the individual mic channels to also achieve a different kind of variety - one of dry to ambient mic mixing with a diverse range of studio rooms used throughout the Drum Masters 2 series.

All together it makes one powerful collection that at least at this price is really for EVERY musician to have on hand... even if you only used one or two kits it'd be worth it just to have the selection and quality (and these are the cost of just few normally... ironically enough). But if you're like me and you like to do something a little Beatlesy or Bonham-esque or Proggy or Jazzy or Classic... well then it is a treasure chest!

Anyway, I just wanted to respond to make sure you and others didn't think there was overlap in kits between the first Group Buy and this one. Apart from maybe a few, very few, shared kit pieces such as the NDV Premier Roto and Timbale kits there's just pure NEW material here to add to the set up one has from the first Group Buy. It'd be crazy to miss out on having both. Plus, if we reach 500 people we're going to do 50 Hybrid Kit patches that combine the kit pieces of BOTH collections - the ultimate combo kits with the best of everything. That ALONE might be worth getting both! If we reach 500 though. Good luck!!!!!!

I agree with you here and actually I'd say there is even more sonic variation of these different drum kits (especially the ones that belong to these legendary drummers - which each have a unique sound and style) than there would be with most electric guitars. Plus, different brands, cymbal sizes, tom sizes, woods, studio rooms... this is a luxury not to miss even at the normal price. But at this price it should be an easy decision. I hope so because there's only two weeks left and it'll be GONE! So, if you all have any questions now is the time to ask. You don't want to be kicking yourself (npi) that you missed this one (and the first GB bundle if you didn't get it yet... that's REALLY going to be gone... at least this one will exist as Drum Masters 2 Signature Kits but the first one had special Ocean Way Drum kits that are not released with those same features anywhere else... when that is gone some people may be sorry they missed it!).
