Which CLOSED headphones do you use?

If you're using the black foam tips with your SE210's, the only over-the-ear headphones that could possibly compete for isolation are those horrible sounding drummer headphones that are built-in to air traffic controller headsets. The black foam tips are just ridiculously good and perform far better than even my custom molded tips. Unfortunately, even my SE410's can't provide the bass of good over-the-ear headphones.

Yes I use the black foam tips. Sound isolation is great, but of course the sound in general isn't as good as over the ear headphones (as long as you're in a relatively quiet environment.) It's the sense of space that's really missing. A big bass drum goes 'bump' with in-ears, while it goes 'bomfph' with over-the-ears. And not just the bass, with in-ear headphones the sound is all kindof inside your head. With over-the-ear the sound surrounds you.

But on the subway, the better quality of over the ear headphones is completely lost. I've seen people with some pretty expensive cans on the subway, but now I know my SE210's probably sound much better.

Better still would be Shure noise canceling in-ears. I have the Audio Technica noise canceling in-ears, they're great at fighting low frequencies but, even with the Comply Foam tips, they just don't cancel high frequency noise as well as the Shure's. The Shure's are much more comfortable, as well.

Does anyone know of a noise canceling system that can work with all headphones?

Well I've been pretty happy with the DT770 headphones, until now. 3 months after purchase the right side cuts out and requires a firm tap to activate again, and there are various pops and crackles (which I am not totally sure, but think they are the headphones as well). I wonder if a refund is possible
