JFYI: the beta installer does not contain sounds, so the full install of 1.2.2 is required prior trying.

If I need to be able to revert to the previous official release version after trying the beta, can I just swap the AU component back or is there anything else involved?

Yes, that's all needed. Or reinstall with 1.2.2 installer.

I used the 1.3 beta in Digital Performer 7.1 and Logic Pro 9.1.1 in OSX 10.6.2, and haven't had any problems. It recorded and played back correctly, and I used multiple automation parameters without issues.
All of my custom patches seem to play correctly too.
Intel iMac 2GHz, 3GB ram
After I give it some more testing I'll report back again.
