OK I should have clarified this feature is important to me (as well as the bus issue mentioned earlier by brok landers, thanks). I think it's only fair to compare it to other hosts like Cubase. Since Slowberg is 200 times slower than Presonus, Presonus should have overtaken Cubase by now he he he

Imho it's only fair to compare Studio One to the current competition.
Indeed, it's an unforgiving world when there's money involved (see the usual rant about 'paying' for plugins for example.. :) )
I love Studio's One clean look and keep a very close eye on it. It will be mine very soon I feel.

I used to use 4 or 5 different applications...

- FLStudio for what it was good at until Cubase became just as good at the things I liked about it and what I personally used it for. Now I rarely use it.

- Same with Acid. It was (way back) much quicker/better than Cubase at pitching/stretching. Then suddenly Cubase could adjust audio by musical key and I didn't need it anymore.

- Wavelab for "home mastering" and CD assembly. Cubase still doesn't burn CD's but I stopped upgrading Wavelab quite a few years ago. Not even sure I have it installed anymore. I'd master/align demos in Cubase and burn the files with Easy CD Creator lite or whatever which was free and already on the system.

- I gave Reaper an early shot (dongle protection in the field, run from a USB drive on the day job for AV editing), for $50 at the time not much of a risk, but I haven't upgraded that either.

- Tried Logic 9, loved it at first, then eventually really, really, really hated it, sold it... lost about $100 but I copied the entire Apple Loops collection so it was a wash. :hihi:

It's a journey...

Now I'm down to two. Cubase and S1. Haven't used anything yet that's better (for me) at very complex audio/midi production and editing than Cubase. Haven't used anything yet that's easier to mix in than S1.

I know... I'm nuts.

With output assignments or that kind of thing? Not sure I understand. Just drop it into arrange and if it's multi-out, turn on outputs in the instrument panel (in the mixer).
exactly. that's actually one of the things that made me go wow, just because it's just so easy to use multitimbral/multiout vsti s ... i.e. reaper, and i have and like it for a lot of features, is one host that allowes this rather easy, too, but in no way so damned easy like studio one does it ...
that goes to monotimbral/stereoout vsti's , too ... this is actually where studio one really leaves everything behind: the workflow is nearly unbeatable easy ...

I would have thought Logic 9 has the interface of S1, and the depth of Cubase's features. Is this not so?

That's exactly what I thought/reasoned when I bought it but it sure didn't turn out that way for me. :(

I'd like to spend more time with Logic for myself, since it's the only one I haven't really tried yet -- hands on -- unless you count clicking on the UI in an Apple Store with a "genius" hovering over you telling you how Logic Express is like Cubase, and Logic Studio is like Pro Tools as hands on. If Apple Store employees are geniuses, I am a god.

But I digress.

I guess this is why people want S1 to get all of their preferred features. From my experience, you're more likely to see new features than UI/workflow changes. So if you have a workflow that works, you go with them and beg for features.

Not at all, I see your point. :)

All I said was that atm, personally, I couldn't imagine using multiple hosts.

Oops, my mistake. Didn't realize the "drag and drop" method, and was doing it the hard way.

cpu efficiency is good. workflow is pretty nice, too. if you could just detach the midi editor, and view/edit multiple tracks at once, i could see really liking this.

My other host is Bruce Forsyth

Yep, that's still my biggest complaint. It doesn't seem like it should be that much of a chore to implement, since the mixer is detachable.

Then again, my programming skills are pretty minimal, so I probably shouldn't talk like I know what I'm saying.

I hear you Susi.

I will open the same file in different hosts, during the same "sitting", depending on what I'm doing. Lets say I decide to start a project in S1. I track vocals and so on and so forth and later decide that the vocal needs serious tuning and I want to use VariAudio in Cubase to tune it.

1. Drag/drop the vocal audio region to the file directory to export a region.

2. Launch Cubase, drag the file in and tune it in VariAudio, flatten it.

3. Drag the tuned vocal track back into S1 (same track, new layer) and go back to work.

Takes about 5 minutes (much like using stand alone Melodyne) and if I prefer to work in S1 for a particular song it's not really a hassle for me to use Cubase for what it's good for in those cases.

Thanks Susi. Much success to you my friend.

Fast food generation... they want it their way and right now. Maybe we need to get this guy on the dev team ... ... we'll have Elastic Audio and Beat Detective next Thursday...

Although LawrenceF & Brent i really honestly do agree at the same time that they need time to implement every feature imaginable/requested...etc. In a way which will make the current user happy and tempt potentional customers to buy into it *I do have a shit business mind and not ashamed of admitting it*
I would say that the update is a big step towards that aim :)

But you will always get the user whom wants the moon on a stick
