Yea, I agree that 'dance' (trance, electrohouse etc.) presets are most popular. It's good for those who are into these genres. For example there are few V-Station soundbanks. It takes about ~ 30 $ to buy few of them which will translate into hmm ~ 500 presets. Even if 1 per 10 presets will be good then you'll have like 50 very good presets, selected etc.

I like popular synths because of this. I can take these all soundbanks, and create my personal best soundbank for composing.

Those who arent into these genres - hmm indeed it can be a problem. I guess it also depends on synth. Big Tick Rhino 3rd party soundbanks seem to be non trance. My wusikstation presets are non trance.

Maybe it's worth to post all 'non electronic dance music' third party presets for all synths ? :)

Rob is there some time you can say, about when your Zebra presets will be available?
I'd like to check those out.
Liked what you did with ACE.

Little missundertanding :) I was not complaining (rather giving compliment), just stating that there are several sound designers making sounds for trance and electrohouse. They all sound good but some of them are asking quite lot. As these genres are not entirely for me, I usually dont want to pay lot of them as there are not so much for me and the quality and sounds are quite similar amongst them.

Rob has priced the product fairly and I have bought them all and I am satisfied with them. Thats what I was trying to say. Even rob's banks was not totally aimed for me, I bought them because quality was good and it did cost me only couple beers. If it would cost more, I would really have to think about it.
Hi mate

No probs mate :) Im just happy that people like them in general.Im new to soft synth programming as iv'e always been a hardware freak :)I aim my sounds at one particular genre so people know what they're getting and that's why a good audio demo of all or most sounds is a must when presenting my work to you guys here.
So many synths i buy i instantly wipe out the factory banks as i want my own sond in there from the start. Not that they're bad it's just that i wan to start fresh... :)

@mcnoone

I spoke to Urs the other day via PM and he said the market is quite flooded with sounds for Zebra so i stopped production at 64 presets :) All i had to do was assign a few XY controls in those presets.
Those 64 took nearly 2 months to create arghhh! But they will come in useful for when i build the new sample library later this year.

I had some great sounds in the making but im focusing on the new Blofeld bank ATM.

PM me and i'll tell you more :D

The mod wheel stuff is always spot on.

50% of the soundbanks I buy down't even bother with this.
I also don't use modwheel but not because lazyness or something. More based on a logical reason. Some midikeyboards have another "ground/zero"-position of her modwheel, so if you use modwheel for cutoff vor example, the sounds will sounds on some midikeyboards different because the cutoff is than via the modwheel closed and on some others open or on the source-position...

At my second soundset for the wavestation every sound have modwheel-usage, but speically there many many users ask angry "why come on some presets no sound out?" - "because the basic position of your modwheel is at zero, and not at 64 like usually, so your midikeyboard close automatic the cutoff"

Based on this i don't use modwheel, and i think nearly everyone has a midikeyboard which have also 8 controllers, with ths 8 controllers you can more modulate than with the modwheel
I wasn't really critisising other sound designers.

Just noting that what Rob does is 'added value'

£10 tops, and to be honest they'd have to be very good on a very complex synth to justify buying them.

Perhaps you should stop being so generous, double the RRP and simply apply a grovelling discount for those that realise they were wrong

just kidding mate, as you know....personally, i would charge what i tink they are worth ..time/effort/quality....but if your living depends on it, who knows...i would prefer getting a company to pay me, then i dont have to worry about selling banks myself

I don't depend on them Dave :) I do other things..

Well, NI for example, or many other big companies dont have specific Trance/Dance oriented Soundbanks/Soundpacks and afaik they sell a lot.

Le Lotus Bleu focus mostly on generalist soundbanks, and they do sell very well as well. There are plenty of instruments usable for Elektro in our soundsets, plenty of classic sounds, and plenty of Bread and Butter sounds.

A possible positive way to build soundsets is to offer really usable and expressive instruments. These are the instruments many musicians are still after, and they know immediatly if their purchase was good when they put the hands on their keyboards and play with the instruments.

I dont know where you got sales figures to make such a statement, but ime and imho, its at least a bit questionable. If Trance/Dance oriented soundbanks are big success, its good for the people who make them, and their users, but there are a lot of other possibilities, believe me, and they're not the only ones by far

$25 gets me considering buying, above that means I have to think seriously about it.

Oh, and if the soundbank dev has been badmouthing either the dev of the synth or other devs, they won't get my money, regardless of the price
