Cubase effects are locked to Cubase, and unfortunately, there is nothing Studio One can do to change that. So it's not you and you aren't doing anything wrong. It's just not possible.Alfalfa wrote:Do Cubase 5 VST3 effects work in Studio One? I'm trying to get Reverence to show up in Studio One, but I am so far unsuccessful.

That's what I was afraid of. Oh well.koolkeys wrote:Cubase effects are locked to Cubase, and unfortunately, there is nothing Studio One can do to change that. I was reading this thread evaluating the various features and shortcomings of S1:
http://forums.presonus.com/showthread.php?t=10656
seeing what I would miss, that's all. They're about the only VST3 plug-ins I'm aware of.

A decent enough free replacement is the S.I.R. convo verb and some decent impulse files from the Noise Vault (the Sony impulses there are good) but do I feel your pain.
Reverence is a really great sounding verb.

Agreed on SIR, that's what I use in Cubase, too.LawrenceF wrote:A decent enough free replacement is the S.I.R. convo verb and some decent files from the Noise Vault (the Sony impulses there are good) but do I feel your pain.

Reverence is such a resource hog and "convoluted"
Are you aware of these impulse sets :
http://www.acousticas.net/World/IRs/AcousticasM7.zip
semi-official Bricasti impulses by acousticas
http://www.rhythminmind.net/presetblog/ ... ulse-sets/
impulses of almost all legendary studio reverb units
all free/donationware, and it doesn't get much better in quality.

Would it not be possible/do-able for you to sample the plug-in reverb that you like but aren't able to use, then use your faviorite presets in the SIR convo engine? The Algo vs the static impulse is a trade off for flexability and modulation when an algorithmic reverb is whats required i know but still if its important to your sound then convolute the son of a bitch and then load is the next best thing? Pinguin audio have a good free sweep availble on their site for free or generate your own and something like Simple Deconvolver should be all you need
+1 for the impulse links mentioned too
Nekro
Edit: oh i just realized it is already an IR plug-in (my bad) > just export the .Wav files then > much easier

With my mental list of things I'd miss in Cubase when using Studio One, I can see why you use both.LawrenceF wrote:A decent enough free replacement is the S.I.R. convo verb and some decent impulse files from the Noise Vault (the Sony impulses there are good) but do I feel your pain.

Can't you transfer Altiverb to your iLok? That's where I have mine. But I never had the C/R protection, so it's always been on the iLok since I got it. So I have no idea if it's even allowed.LawrenceF wrote:I also own Altiverb so in the studio it's all good. But of course Reverence goes where ever the dongle goes but Altiverb can only be used in one place.
Sorry for the OT, just curious.

When this (Studio 1 DAW) first came out I kinda balked at the feature set.
Oooo! Unlimited tracks! What a glorious feature! And the bottom version doesn't support vst and cost twice as much as the FL fruity edition?? Seriously? And a 64 bit host isn't exactly groundbreaking anymore...
But the video and other features mentioned in the update suggest someone has their head on straight, not what I originally imagined from the flat-out stupid self-assessment their webpage made concerning the v.1 release features. I still can't get over that.

From my demoing, I think I'd like to see these added (if they are there already, maybe someone can let me know):
Variaudio/Melodyne-like pitch correction
A built-in convolution reverb
Does S1 have multi-track audio quantize? Cubase currently only has single-track audio quantize, but it's expected in Cubase 6 (we hope).
Also, in Cubase, I assign a key to the Edit VST button, so I can open and close a VST with a key. Is that possible in S1?
I also like having a score editor and a drum map.
Then there's MIDI stuff, that would be nice to see down the road.
MIDI sends. There are other MIDI editing features. Perhaps those would be another layer of the onion, so to speak. VST Expression, Input Transformer, MIDI Inserts, MIDI Modifiers. A matrix.
Those are the things I'd like to see. Most of them are already in Cubase, some are in other hosts, none are all in one, and none have S1's superior layout.
I don't think I like S1's layers, unless there is a way to see all of the layers at the same time. It seems that you can only view one layer in a track at a time. There should be an option to view them all together (let me know if there is a way).
That's enough blabbing for now.
Edit: I would also like to have the option for the edit window to automatically size to the selected clip or data when it opens up. Also, the option to have the data in the edit window to automatically loop.
I am not interested in new VSTi synths. I have enough. As far as VST effects, maybe a partnership with Voxengo, but I really just want the convolution reverb.
Drum replacement would probably be worthwhile as well to compete with Logic.

I never even thought about it when using Cubase 5 on my laptops having Reverence but now with Studio One that would be a good idea.koolkeys wrote:Can't you transfer Altiverb to your iLok? You could always ask Audioease perhaps? I know that Altiverb is one of a kind and IMO is the best convo out there, so it's definitely worth a try. The worst they could say is no, right?LawrenceF wrote:I never even thought about it when using Cubase 5 on my laptops having Reverence but now with Studio One that would be a good idea.koolkeys wrote:Can't you transfer Altiverb to your iLok? I think (just a guess) that down the road you may see that foundation of layers with their own sets of takes become something really unique via lanes etc. I know... it's just a wish that may never come true... I have no idea how they'll develop those in the future.Alfalfa wrote:I don't think I like S1's layers, unless there is a way to see all of the layers at the same time. On a basic foundational level S1's audio engine is already stronger than Cubase's in some ways (and of course behind in some others like free routing), they just need more time to develop the bigger picture. One example of where they are ahead is having multiple overlapping parts on the same track playing at the same time.
Like Reaper, (and unlike Cubase) all of these overlapping parts will play/voice, which has implications for things like vocal overdubs where parts overlap.

But all of the other bigger stuff isn't going to happen overnight.

That sounds good. I'll be looking forward to see what they do. My complaint was just with the inability to see them all at once, or the option to see them all at once.LawrenceF wrote: I think (just a guess) that down the road you may see that foundation of layers with their own sets of takes become something really unique via lanes etc. I know... it's just a wish that may never come true... I think the user input being provided to them on their forum is helping to guide the software before the bigger picture gets too entrenched. Once a feature is set, inertia seems to keep it that way, until enough protests are made, then an option is added, and bloat ensues. S1 has the change to get it right the first time. I'm really heartened by their responsiveness to user requests. On a basic foundational level S1's audio engine is already stronger than Cubase's in some ways (and of course behind in some others like free routing), they just need more time to develop the bigger picture.
It doesn't take long using Cubase with audio to come across this surprise. One example of where they are ahead is having multiple overlapping parts on the same track playing at the same time.
But they are moving so quickly, I thought I ought list out my opinion. They have been moving far more quickly than I thought they would. My first impression was that the world did not need another DAW, and this was too under-featured to be worthwhile. But then it was released with a lot of features, and new ones have been coming fast. But all of the other bigger stuff isn't going to happen overnight.
Their thinking on design seems to coincide with what I prefer as well. 1.5 is an impressive update in its own right. It will likely take years to get all of the stuff I've listed above. It'll happen when it happens.
