What kind of stupid ass comment is this. Do you actually have any concept of reality?

So according to you--people who try this and think its CPU is through the roof should just not buy it and not tell anyone what they thought on a forum in which your suppose to do exactly that ?

Is that your genius suggestion? Because if it is--I need to know all your other illogical thoughts.

I don't think he suggested nobody could discuss it. There's a limit though - people here spend their life neurotically searching for the "highest quality sound", then complain when something comes along and delivers it, even then recommending an "economy mode" (which in my view is the real stupid ass comment here.)

As said, if you appreciate the sound of this thing and can't run it yet, just keep it in mind till your next hardware upgrade. Don't expect technology to be subject to the same limitations as your hardware is; that's solipsism or sour grapes, depending on your perspective. "I can't run it, nodody should be able to."

Fact is, many people are willing to spend enormous sums of money ensuring their hardware is always at the forefront of digital audio capability. Their reward for this is they can take advantage of the latest developments in digital software.

I think people see a new generation of architecture, like the i7 or 8 core or whatever, then wrongly assume they will never need to worry about CPU consumption again. The reality is that the forefront of DSP technology will always exist near the forefront of processing power. This applies to both native and external/DSP systems (you only have to look at the new generation of UAD plugs already destroying all but the top-spec UAD2 configurations.)

Well, if the dev says explicitly that it is CPU intensiv - well, there is no point in complaining about it IMHO.
No-one should take it as a personal insult that the plugin stresses her/his CPU ...

You like t - ok, there are ways to deal with high CPU consumption - from bounce over freeze and so on ....

best

Your ALL RIGHT. We're warned since the beginning so ;-)...

This is the Tube Crunch preset. I'm still searching around.
If this is a spectrum of Wavearts tube then i must say that there is A LOT of aliasing!!! Single sine distorted with tube should produce even and odd harmonics - depending on some preamp boost. Odd harmonics should be quieter than even harmonics. In Your spectrum there is a lot of harmonics that are not strict multipliers of base distorted sine - this is aliasing.

1) not wavearts
2) not a tube emulation

someone posted tube graphs in tubearts topic of our customer forum, maybe he could share.
If you check the 1200+ programs of the nebula library you'll find every possible conbination of levels: quieter odd harmonics, quieter even, mixed.

Other tip: this analyzer is simply checking 1Khz, which is the standard but which doesn't tell you the whole picture. You should check harmonic distortion for every possible input frequency and combination.

Other tip: tubes are great for the dynamic behaviour (and more important, dynamic behaviour of harmonics). So you should analyze it too.

about aliasing: there is aliasing, which is a different thing from your description: you'll see it in the left region of the picture (2 peaks, because nebula is not managing it, but you could minimize it working at higher rates) and a bit (not so much) around each harmonic, due to the dynamic switching of kernels (there is a bit of aliasing, but not so much compared with other dynamic devices). For most of time aliasing (just 2 exceptions) is lower than -120dB

Just for clarification. Yes it's the WaveArts plug using the preset called Tube Crunch. And the VST Plugin Analyzer is just set to measure harmonic distortion. That's all I did.

Zaphod, that would be great if someone from your commercial forum could post some of the harmonic examples :)

Hi Guys, I'm Alex and this is my first post here.

As Klipspringer have asked I would like to post some harmonic examples between Nebula and TubeSaturator.

This is Nebula3 with Modern Tube Preamp MKII (it will be released this weekend), the pure class A with stock tubes: first stage 12AT7 Ruby, second stage ECC88 Electro Harmonix, at unity gain:

and now driven at +5dB:

Now I would like to compare the MTP with TS at different tone frequency to see how harmonic change. Plugins run at 96khz, at the left Nebula, at the right TubeSaturator.

100hz -6dBfs

500hz -6dBfs

1khz -6dBfs

10khz -6dBfs

If you want to try this MTP you can download the free beta library for Nebula3-Free here:

I hope this help.

What? What are you trying to say? I struggle to see the point

The good news is we now have a 6-core computer on the market and more to come. Soon this Tube Saturator plugin won't be seen as that power-hungry of a plug, but i'm hoping Wave Arts can deliver some more complex emulations and other plugins with high-end algorithms soon since they did such a good job with tube saturator sound-wise. Tube Saturator is a nice plugin and got me hungry for more new-era plugins from Wave Arts. Wave Arts - don't be scared to bring it!!!
T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

"What? What are you trying to say? I struggle to see the point"

Don't struggle too hard, homeboy.

( and let me tell you, I bought this plugin / like three weeks ago, so I'm not a long time user (but who is..)

and I'm really satisfied with it.

The best tube simulation plugin out there?? (absolutely, whithout a doubt).

p.s. I'm still using a computer (getting the most out of it..) which is not "up to date"

(in, probably your opinion/s..)
..I'm not using a mac pro..

So, of course, that "eating up a lotta CPU" issue is relevant for me, too.
But compared to the quality of this algorithm, that's not a problem at all.

There still (thankfully) are a lotta methods to solve those "irrelevant" problems..

Greetings,

Rodge
