i could understand 2300 over a period of time but 23000 FFS :-o

People rate prices referring to what it might be worth to them - which is obviously anything from 0 ct to anything...

What does it help?... I stick with my opinion that it basically depends on sales if it pays back to the sound designer. So what about more progressive sales models...

Calculate cost for 10 copies sold... maybe that's 100 bucks each. Then refund to the first 10 buyers and fix a new price if you sell some more. Repeat the procedure in certain steps, maybe 100, 1000 versions etc... So probably people will not share their copies as they know they get always a refund if sales keep on going...
Reverse this and you have a group buy.

Try it as you formulate it and you'll have

1/ O customers for your soundbank at 100$
2/ Even if you have more users if you had ever completing a refund process with Paypal you'll certainly be aware that you'll spend your entire life making it, not including large excel sheets to see who has been refunded and how much, and this for all your soundbanks.
3/ Some great nightmares when you will do your accountancy at the end of each month ( Of course you'll have to deal with complex VAT or taxes formulas to know how much taxes you have in credit or debt )

Otherwise, a great idea ........ in theory :)

My 0.002 Only my opinion there

Rob
randomised = 1% usable sounds 99% crap

23,000 hand made = 1% usable sounds, 99% slight variations/crap

its not possible to have 23,000 sounds that are both diff and useable

if you look (listen) at synths that have been around for a few years and built up a big library, the majority of those sounds are repeats or very close....its just impossible not to

also, i find that SD's tens to make the same or simlar sounds on nearly every synth they work on, so really, you only need to buy one synth one soundbank from each SD and you have their entire work.

IMO

Yes it sounds great in theory but IMO i think we should just all do what we've always done and do it and price it our own way :)

I do this regular but only with my favourite sounds..

At the end of the day i already have a great customer base so i work for them and them alone..I give them what they want and sometimes cheap but iv'e not had one complaint yet because i aim at a certain genre and stick to it..like i said i always warn to try the audio demos as not all sounds will suit..
That way no complaints after the purchase.

Here's what i'll do for 7 days from today...

For the easter week im going to edit my webstore for my Largo and Sylenth soundsets whereas users can pay anything they like as long as it's above £2 to cover paypal costs so how would 384 presets for Sylenth sound? or 128 for Largo?

Then people can pay me what they think my sounds are worth for the next 7 days.
Sound Fair?

Let me know your thought's here and i'll do it

Rob
Rob, i think you are getting the wrong end of the stick, im not making any personal attacks or 'you charge too much for too little', at least not to you, i was just throwing some thoughts ideas i had on the subject up for disscussion

i certainly dont want you to devalue your work cos of something ive said.

Yeah ! True in a sense if this takes care of the personality of a given designer.

And completely false as well because :

1/ All synths are not able of making the same instruments. And I'd say that SDs are also here to push their possibilities to the extremes.

2/ As sound designers we also have an evolution. ie we learn, invent, discover new things every day.

So ...... inbetween I'd say  And this might be -partly maybe- demonstrated by the fact that we have for example many faithfull users   who get all our Soundsets. People are NOT stupid, if they found always the same instruments, they would certainly not buy them 10 times

Just ime.

Mate, seriously, yours are priced very reasonably and I think you should sell loads due to excellent quality and pricing plan; you sell them however you like :D
