OK folks, time for you to cast your votes the best Anubis only track.

See thread... http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0

Unfortunately, many who attempted to write a track had to abandon their attempts due to problems running Anubis .... serves you right for having fancy PCs!!! :hihi: Cheers for trying though, and good luck with the next comp/synth. :tu:
But credit to those who persevered through probs or squeezed what they could from their glorious old machines. On a further positive note, voting is gonna be easier! ....well maybe not, but in theory :hihi: .... anyway, lets have lots of them!

Please listen to all the tracks before casting a vote ... I know it takes a while, ( but not as long as it could have been! :hihi: )...and its the only fair way to do things ... Criteria for your voting decision is up to you, but I ask that you take at least some account of the range, nature, use of the synths sounds in your decisions.

So here's how!

@@Go to the online folder ....
http://OneSynthComp.4shared.com/

Here you can listen to individual tracks, and read accompanying notes re. what what was used in their making. You can download individual tracks as you wish.

Alternatively, from the same link/folder, you can also download the zipped folder '00 - Anubis tracks'
This will be a lot quicker than downloading individual tracks, You will then have all the tracks in one place to at your leisure, .... think about it as your free album .... a gift in exchange for making a contribution to the comp!

You can also access the tracks via a playlist here ....

http://www.4shared.com/play/13038764/ab ... hComp.html

( **** note **** if you experience difficulty accessing the above files, dont give up, try a different browser ... IE seems to work better than some browsers. )

How to vote .... in view of the relatively small number of entries, I was going to revert to the one vote poll, but I think we have enjoyed greater choice and flexibility for so long now that it should continue.... so as a compromise, we'll do a 5-3-1 system. Your favourite gets 5 points, second fave gets 3 and your third fave gets 1.

Please allocate all your votes in a single post in the following format ...

Track xyz - artist - 5
Track yxz - artist - 3
Track zxy - artist - 1

Reviews, however brief, are always welcome, but even if you can only find the time to add a short comment, then please do! ...it keeps the thread alive, and encourages others to listen/vote. I will do a review when I can grab a bit of time to do the job justice.

**Closing date for votes will be Thurs 15th of April!

....Enjoy the music!

Note .... I will tally the votes and post updates as the votes come in.... and I'm sure there will be the usual willingness to correct me if I get anything wrong ----

Somehow I managed to render/convert my track to mono and upload it, all without realising - and it sounds terrible, or, at least, worse than it should.

I did re-up a stereo version, but I don't want to put tattie to the trouble of rejigging the Anubis Tracks zip file, so here's it is:

Hi peoples ;)
I did not participate in this competition, but listened to all tracks and have decided to vote.

More Than Meets The Ear - Yeager - 5
Talent is always talent. Very good! Second track also is really nice.
(I have become interested George Yohng W1 Limiter and has compared it with JB Barricade Pro (€10 only). No miracles: with a Barricade Pro I had the best result ;) )

Anubian Dubian - Mr Wobble - 3
I would give to this track 6 - no, 7 points - but annoying pseudo-snare-drum forces me to grieve  Bravo, interesting and unexpected piece!

Minstrel cycle - tattiemannie - 1
Good! I could tell a lot about this track, but my English does not allow me to accurately express his thoughts :(

great stuff! Thanks Steplton for getting the votes up and running so early! :)

OK, not many tracks this time, so - even if the quality was as high as usual - it was easier to vote (I could listen to all of them three times tonight...)
Here we go:

5 points: Minstrel Cycle - tattiemannie (crazy whirling twister as usual, I can only love it)
3 points: More Than Meets The Ear - Yeager (a sonic beauty filled with feelings and emotions, Yeager never disappoints)
1 point: I just couldn't decide between Xenobioz and mrblitz, I just find them equally interesting, in two very different ways... so I'll be honest and say I had to resort to the famous scientific method: I tossed a coin. And the point goes to Anubian Invasion - Xenobioz (heads, for the records).

Sorry so many people had problems with this synth :( But please don't let this keep you from partecipating next time!!

These are pretty darn good. And they just go to show that it (almost) doesn't matter what tool you use to make your music. A good musician is a good musician. I'm going to listen to these all day before casting a vote as they are excellent imho and I really want to care about my vote. So I'm postponing my vote until later today. What does the winner get? Glory ;)?

NB: Is there any place where us newbies can learn to put tracks together with our DAWs? Say a tutorial with screen capture? I'd pay say $5 to see the process behind most of these tracks. Could be another way for a muso to earn a bit on the side. There seem to be plenty of vid-tutes on how to get synths working but not many on actually constructing a musical track. How can we learn to do stuff like this - or is it "school of life" / 20 years in the music biz stuff?

Very VERY cool guys.

Thanks Steplton.

(I quite like the snare; out of interest - and respect for a better musician than I  - what grieves you about it? Is it too prominent, is there too much low-mid/muddiness, or is it just too 'pseudo'? It is an obviously synthetic sounding snare, but I thought it had something of a Simmons'y' feel to it - and you do hear Simmons' used a fair bit in dubby tracks. Anyway that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it :hihi: .)

hmm... Too molestful snare. Loud snare... I would make easier snare.
Oh s&#t! My vocabulary is too small.

I didn't make the contest myself this time but that shouldn't stop me from casting my votes! Altogether it looks like Anubis have brough out the avant-garde in some of you guys

Abu Dhabi Do Dhah - Yeager (5)
I like this! Who would have thought you could do a Sly & Robbie type track on a freebie synth! I'd loev to hear this with S & R themselves! Nicely done

Mac_of_BIOnighT-HYBERNATION_CHAMBER (3)
If they were to do a DOOM 4 video game. This should be the background music for the opening level. What a mood setter! Is it even music. I don't know what it is but you surely make Anubis sound like Omnisphere and that's quite an achievement in my book!

Haunted_Megalopolis---mrblitz000 (1)
It's like the C64 but owned by Stockhausen! :hihi: Starts out easy but then the 12 tone scale ideas appear. Not for the squeamish!
