Hah, gettin desperate now, but weren't you the one 'jerkin' the chainz' in the morning?

Of course, how great a music producer you or I are has everything to do
with the comparative price of a multifunction tablet vs a standalone hardware beatbox...short term memory loss eh? or maybe you're just a little less cooler headed and superior than you tried to just pull.

And to answer your question, you wont find any links to me from here. And you're exactly the kind of person who confirms why keeping my musical professional life separate from KVR is wise.

Bones anyone?
Yea, much as I thought. I was hoping that you could back up the talk but the walk aint happening. Confirms who ipad is aimed at. Peace, out..

The iPad is a computer, and it does run OS X. It doesn't run Mac OS X, but the iPhone/iPad OS is a custom version of OS X Leopard, recompiled for ARM processors. All of the Core technologies from the Mac are present: Core MIDI, Core Audio, Core Video, Core Image, etc.

I think a lot of the anti iPad people forget that this product isn't really aimed at the power user. I actually decided to not get one because a touchscreen made a lot more sense as I don't need something portable. But I'd still like one. Why? We keep an iBook in the living room for surfing and what-not and our weekend ritual is to have breakfast and read "the papers" while having our coffee, though we're using laptops now. An iPad would be perfect for this and I bet a lot of people who rarely use their laptop for anything more than a few IMs and web surfing will dig it.

It may take some Kindle market share, but it won't have any affect on the notebook market once people understand how poorly an iPad would substitute for a computer with a hardware keyboard.

GrooveMaker for the iPad is a lot of fun.

I love the iPad. Can't wait until it arrives! I am a gadget freak.

That's also my impression. It's for people who want to consume media easily. By the way, although easy to wipe clean, the front of the iPad is apparently very easily streaked with finger marks.

Me too. I think there will be gadget software galore for the iPad. As an example I have Bhajis Loops for my Palm Zire. Tons of fun in the checkout at Walmart.

TBH though that's another reason an iPad doesn't really fit in my computer world. The Zire plays movies, mp3s, wifi internet, Mobi eBook Reader, games.. ect. There are even good ST, NES and Mastersystem emulators. You just haven't seen everything until you see TOS and AmigaDOS boot up on a Palm's 3.5" screen. :hihi:

My wife has a Kindle but I prefer Mobi for the Palm because it fit's in one hand. Just flip on auto scroll and you can blister through a book in no time. I suppose it's something like reading a book on a iPhone except Palms have a little better battery life and don't get hot. The Kindle beats all comers in the sunlight. I kinda want iPad because I'm just that kind of guy but I really doubt it.

I realize it's not a "new" CPU design but it is new in the fact it has been modified by Apple to work specifically for the OS that runs the iPad and visa-versa. I would imagine it to be highly optimized but we'll see in a few days if it is.

Pure symantics and you know it. You cant run OSX programs on it. Period. Its closer to a PDA than a computer. Im not anti ipad - it just isnt that big a deal. My Palm T5 was similar to it and that was over 5 years ago :

Yes, it is semantics -- and you got the semantics wrong. The iPad and the iPhone run OS X, though they do not run Mac OS X. To say that the iPhone version of OS X isn't OS X because it doesn't run Mac software is like saying that the iPhone doesn't run the same operating system as the iPad because the iPhone can't run apps written specifically for the iPad. The iPhone/iPad has every bit as much right to claim the OS X moniker as the Mac does. It's the same sauce. Aside from the user interface, the file system, and some hardware-specific bits, they're running the same code that the Macs are.

As for your five-year-old PDA, could you use it as a multi-touch virtual mixing board, a remote control for your plugins, a virtual Real Book, a drum machine, an effects processor, a sequencer, a virtual piano, or a DJ mixer? If so, how would you say the experience compares to using the iPad and its touch interface for the same tasks? Listen, if you're happier with an antique PDA instead of an iPad, you have my blessing. More than anything, I just find it a little sad that your imagination is so lacking that you can't see the unique possibilities that the iPad presents, and that you cling to an outdated notion of what constitutes a computer.
You're bad... with my help, you could be the worst.
