I have an 19" touchscreen (1280x1024) and for some plugs it's still too small.
Most plugs would need a serious rewrite to work comfortably on something as small as an ipad.
But then it would be pretty cool to have a couple of medium size touchscreens, just running the GUI and that there would be a two way wireless communication with the main DAW.

having 10 fingers doesnt mean you can control 10 things at once, at least not practically, very difficult, especially in a small screen like that...ive got more 10 pads i could play at once on my drum machine, but i cant do itdan_s wrote:
i dont really agree with this being the 'future' since controlers like the lemur are already being used and do pretty much the same thing. though, i think you are both missing the point.
its MULTITOUCH surface. Depending on the interface you could technically manuipulate 10 controls at the same time. Your mouse can only touch 1 action at a time. With your hardware controller you can probably do two, maybe 3 actions at the same time.
its not new, but the size and price are.
typing is the only thing i can do using all my fingers at the (approximate) same time

You're absolutely right. Not a fanboi (though some would debate that - I do like Apple productsnovaflash wrote:"i HATE circular controls on a touch screen"
not only on touchscreen, mouse+circular are bad too!
A colleague using Usine intensively said the size and switches
density is important too, especially with a multi-point touchscreen.
I think its extremely important for the devs to nail the interface. There is no reason to go with the familiar, because the raison d'etre of the iPad is to segue into new territory, interface-wise. Wouldn't buy that app, there's no good reason for it to look like its HW equivalent...

"crappy" MIDI controller? Some might argue the use of a non-tactile touchscreen as "crappy", tooKraku wrote:No, on computer you need to use mouse, or crappy midi controller. On iPad you could use the plugin's own GUI + your fingers to do the job. Much more faster and easy.
However, everyone is free to use whatever they want to make music. I don't really care as long as the end result is enjoyable to listen to.
Meh.

Not sure why this matters, you can change control action in the iElectribe in options.novaflash wrote:"i HATE circular controls on a touch screen"

this ipad/pod/phone stuff is pretty cheap!
i guess even with these music apps there is a much wider audience potential than say, vst's which need a host and a bit of knowledge to run them.. the apps are easy and any young wannabe will see this and go "10 bucks, yeah i'll go for that!" I'm sure It wouldn't be impossible to sell 100,000 apps over a year or two, thats quite a bit of money back.
