She's a bigger gadgetfreak than I am, so she'll be happy the iPad on our couch! In fact, I believe in many homes the iPad will turn out to be a shared device on the couch or sitting on the coffee table.
Im sitting here with my netbook on the sofa, one thing I would find with an ipad is that getting the angle right would be awkward. On my netbook, I just adjust the angle of the display with the hinge. Good luck doing that with ipad. As its running Windows 7, I can run Massive, Traktor etc on it just fine. My USB stuff also just works on it if I want. I wouldnt want any less.

ipad is underpowered, lacks connectivity and is non standard, its a large format PDA - I have a laptop. Netbook is smaller and lighter. Its powerful enough for what I want, all the apps are standard so everything I want to run on it works right now. Great for jamming, djing etc.

i agree, but netbooks are still crap...you cant do anything serious on it, its still no more than a fad gadget, like the 'i' range

If I want serious, I go to my Quad core desktop, the netbooks use is in its title. Unlike ipad, it dosnt pretend to be anything else. I get fun out of its size and the fact it has loads of ports.

Surely it would be Adobe's job to get Flash to work well, seeing as they make it.
It does work well. It works well for 95% of the market share. It's not adobe's job to make macs run it better when it works well on linux, windows, and other smartphone OS's.

How do you propose that Apple get Flash 'to work well' when they are not producing the code? What do you think it is about Mac OS-X that means Flash doesn't work well, as you seem to think it doesn't? Surely nothing at all to with Adobe's code, hmmm.

Anyway, it is there, it runs on OS-X. Presumably Apple have their reasons for not being very enthusiastic about having it on PhoneOS, some of which have probably been detailed above. And let's be fair, it can be inefficient and a CPU drain on any platform.

Also how is watching youtube 'transparent'? What does that even mean?

I can't imagine why Apple claims any significant issues with Flash. It's so mature now that it's very reliable and universal. Sites like YouTube are essentially flash-driven in terms of content.

Surely it's the iPad that isn't pretending to be a traditional computer? What is it pretending to be in your opinion?

Just because you can't necessarily hear your PC CPU get stressed like you can when MacBooks get hot it doesn't mean that Flash is super efficient. Not to say that Apple might not have other reasons for wanting to avoid it for now.

According to KVR users, its pretending to be the answer to everything. Apples marketing is known to do this. They claim its a game changer!!! Perhaps you need to read the comments on here. Its a larger format PDA, thats all. Nothing remarkable.

A 1.5-pound PDA, to be more precise.

But that's the thing. For musicians it is more than that.

What you have is an affordable, portable computer based around a fully configurable and very nice multi-touch display. This is clearly a GREAT way to control electronic instruments and software, and plenty more besides, if you can see the potential there. So even if that's not what the device was primarily intended for / marketed as it's clearly a top bonus. That's certainly one big reason why people (here) are interested in it.

lol, to some musicians maybe. To me multitouch is just another buzzword and a way to sell something. To me, my Netbook works in the capacity as a musical tool just fine.

Well it's certainly efficient enough to run on just about any level of hardware, which was the original goal a dozen years ago. I actually think Apple has a not-invented-here attitude about a lot of industry standards.
