You can see how portability is useful, right?
You can see how affordability is good, right?
You can see how multi-touch is better than mouse-based for instrument control, right?
You can see how a display based system is far more flexible and 'intelligent' than fixed, solid controls, right?
You can see how having a fairly powerful computer on-board means that it can be much more than just a controller as well, right?
You can see how it being based on a very well established platform with hundreds of competent developers working on it is advantageous, right?

blah haters
This thing is a swiss army super pda with supreme functionality
it is relatively confined but that is the idea
Soon a MacPad will be available that should satisfy the affluent techies...
but its still a Mac so go figure

What is this? Go buy one if you wish, I dont see the point in multitouch, its actually a compromise (you did read the guy who has ielectribe - he said its controls were quirky) - I have what I want in the way of a proper controller with real knobs thanks.masstronaut wrote:You can see how portability is useful, right?

Multitouch is not just a buzz word, it means that the control surface of the screen can detect a number of different areas being touched simultaneously. It also means that it is a display so you can literally reach out and touch / control elements on the screen, there's less abstraction between the control and changing it - you just touch it. This should be obvious of course.UltraJv wrote:lol, to some musicians maybe. To me multitouch is just another buzzwork and a way to sell something. To me, my Netbook works in the capacity as a musical tool just fine.
How many controls can you change simultaneously with a mouse?
How many fingers do you have, for instance?
How quickly could you map or get used to a new instrument mapped to a keyboard / controller? If the interface for an instrument popped up on a touch screen it would all be there immediately with the controls fully integrated.

Couldn't have anything to do with Korg's current (and very early) implementation of the controls in that one program, which of course are fully programmable, being software based.
That's a silly argument. And you can do rotary controls on a touch screen in numerous ways, just like with a mouse. Touch it and move up and down, for instance.

As yer man says, in fact. They already thought of that.
- you can change knobs from rotary to linear which definitely helps.

I don't think anyone here really cares whether one person on the internet buys one or not. That's not really the point here is it.
I'm probably not going to buy one either, at least not for a while, but that doesn't mean I can't see what it can be. Certainly a lot of fun, and yes fun and toys do have a place in music making.
So go on then, don't buy one. :p

Yeah the whole thread was about whether UltraJv was going to buy an iPad or not.
I'm glad he's managed to resist the hype so valiantly and not felt the need to announce publicly that he's not going to buy one.

I agree that there are things is can do in a way that could enhance the experience, but it's hardly a game changer. It won't affect sales of phones or laptops/netbooks.masstronaut wrote:I don't think anyone here really cares whether one person on the internet buys one or not. Yeah but this is a forum for music stuff, or so I thought. And who cares what sales of other things it does or doesn't affect.eduardo_b wrote:It won't affect sales of phones or laptops/netbooks.

That said, it's certainly going to affect JazzMutant's business in some ways.
