Isnt the ipad just a poor mans Dell?

Isn't a PC just a poor mans Mac?

Of course - its a premium product - now if it was Apples - youd be all about paying premium for quality wouldnt you?djanthonyw wrote:
Yup. So nearly anything in Flash is going to be less efficient than native code, was the point.kbaccki wrote:But generally speaking, the more you can do natively, rather than through language mappings and abstraction layers, the better your performance.
And you'd probably have to run any Flash based stuff inside a browser. Not ideal.
Yes, so Apple would have to enable it in Safari and/or allow a standalone player / self-player. Same deal really, all academic for now wrt iPhone OS.kbaccki wrote:Flash is generally considered "web browser technology", but you can run SWFs or whatever through a standalone Flash player. I think there is also a way to create a standalone "projector" from a SWF without needing the (rather expensive) Flash dev environment.
Also you're supposed to have Flash to make Flash apps, but I guess that's not a concern for everybody.
Well that's great. So presumably you, anyone, can go with Flex, now. So who does? And if not, why not? I think that's what Henry was originally getting at there. There's more to determioning what works in the real world than what is available, technically possible, or even 'better' by some measures.kbaccki wrote:You could go with Flex...
Not really. I don't have much interest in a tablet / touch screen option at the moment, but that could change.UltraJv wrote:Of course - its a premium product - now if it was Apples - youd be all about paying premium for quality wouldnt you?djanthonyw wrote:
Yes - we all know that nothing is wrong with OSX, its flawless :djanthonyw wrote:Not really. I don't have much interest in a tablet / touch screen option at the moment, but that could change. When Apple comes out with a product they get it right.
Yes, I know - depite the facts - never minddjanthonyw wrote:Funny, I don't even recall saying OS X is flawless. All I said was that I think it's superior to Windows.
Rubbish. Why would I bother with that when I can download the Flex SDK for free and make the same thing to run in a Flash player on my Dell Tablet? I mean that's exactly what musicians want to do isn't it?djanthonyw wrote:http://saitarasoftware.com/promosmall.png
Well, what you would do is run any major DAW or other Windows software on the Dell - different ballgame. The Dell has the power to run a DAW, no special development needed.masstronaut wrote:Rubbish. Who said you couldn't? Have fun.masstronaut wrote:Rubbish. Why would I bother with that when I can download the Flex SDK for free and make the same thing to run in a Flash player on my Dell Tablet? Yes of course it's different. It's a wireless control surface application, not a DAW.UltraJv wrote:Well, what you would do is run any major DAW or other Windows on the Dell - different ballgame. You did spot the irony didn't you. I know it gets tricky. Maybe I missed yours.djanthonyw wrote:Who said you couldn't? Have fun.masstronaut wrote:Rubbish. Well, you can limit yourself any which way. I could equally say, why use an ipad as the remote when your whole DAW could be multitouch. Cubase and others have graphical templates for controlling synths. I just wanted to point out that there are other devices out there and that ipad was nothing new and Apples idea of it being a game changer is optimistic.masstronaut wrote:Yes of course it's different. If you were running your DAW on something like that how would expect to hook up your audio system wirelessly? Not so easy is it. So it might make more sense to have a wireless remote running on something light and simple like an iPad that you move about the studio easily / not worry about spacking the hard drive etc.
