64 Bit Plugin Issues - Reaper 64

Post

Just beginning to test the waters moving from XP to Windows 7 64:

Cronox 3.6, Alpha, Organ 3 - all work fine as 32 bit apps 'bridged' in Reaper 3.35/64, but each 64 bit version crashes the program when you attempt to change presets.

I don't have another 64 bit DAW to test to see if this is Reaper specific. ;)

Post

I'll install the 64 bit reaper and see if I can reproduce it. Thank you tovokas.

Nope, it seems all pretty perfect here. I played a while with Organ 3 and alpha 3 (64 bit versions) in Reaper 64 and changed programs all time from plugin GUI, Reaper GUi and via MIDI program change and it all went smooth. Can you give me some more info how you encountered the problem exactly ?

Post

Hmm. If I bring up a completely blank project, add a single track, then add Alpha 64 (Or CronoX or Organ 3) - the inital preset will play fine. As soon as I attempt to change the preset, Reaper crashes. If I disable Alpha, and change the preset, it doesn't crash... but as soon as I enable Alpha, the program crashes.

I've disabled and enabled every VST option without effect. As mentioned, the bridged versions work fine. All my VST's are in the same folder, and at this point the Linplug 64 versions seem to be the only 'native' plugs going down.

Post

Thank you Tovokas, how did you change the preset (Reaper, MIDI Contoller or ALpha GUI).

Anybody else with Reaper 64 ?

It crashes using both the Reaper drop-down and the Alpha GUI.

Further testing: the apps will crash if I attempt to play with any knobs/sliders. Any change from the default initial patch = poof.

Not sure if this will help, but digging through the event logs, here's a sample crash log:

Faulting application name: reaper.exe, version: 3.4.0.0, time stamp: 0x4babbc76
Faulting module name: reaper.exe, version: 3.4.0.0, time stamp: 0x4babbc76
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000000000041bb54
Faulting process id: 0xe90
Faulting application start time: 0x01cad05af6e6e25f
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\REAPER (x64)\reaper.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\REAPER (x64)\reaper.exe

The crash data is the same for all 3 plug-ins save for process id and app start time.

Ran a full memory scan to rule out bad ram, everything tests out fine.

I found a system where it happens. Debugging shows that Reaper crashed when the instrument is sending it some events (in this case Parameter MIDI CC feedback for external controller), I'll report it to the Reaper guys. I'll let you know in case we find a solution or if its something we have to fix.

Post

Thanks Peter! As I mentioned, the 32 bit versions work fine with the bridge, so there's an ironclad workaround in the meantime. :)

As advertised, the updated version of Cronox (3.6.1) works perfectly in Reaper 64. Great job!

Thanks :)

I encounter the same symptoms/problems with running Organ 3 on Windows 7 64 bit using either Plogue Bidule or Cantabile VST-host. As soon as the preset-button is clicked the plugin crashes. I saw that the new version of Organ 3 is soon to be released. Hopefully soon so I can check out if the bug is fixed ;-)

it will be fixed, but I cannot yet say when its released to the public.
