yeah, I've got doubts but definitely reserve judgment until we know more.
I've signed up for the beta selection.

If it'll have drag and drop import...

Hopefully this DAW is cool and has an offline mode.

Seems like something Google would have done.

Yep. Somewhere between Logic and Facebook. What sort of megabucks do you reckon they'll get offered by Apple/ Google/Murdoch in a year's time?

according to their website:
Ohm Studio is a standalone real-time collaborative music making application (DAW/sequencer) in addition to a web based collaboration platform and a music driven online cohmunity.
so, apparently it's just a daw that integrates with an online service. if that's the case, VERY cool. they really can't screw around though, daw competition is pretty stiff, so either the functionality has to be there, or it's gotta be really cheap.
i also remember rocket network and that was longer than 5 years ago...cubase vst was pre 2k. it has been tried a few times, at least. it's a cool idea, and might catch on yet.

ftm, i use reaper for project exchange. i bounce out stems to .ogg or mp3 files, add notes, zip the entire project folder and email it. it's dirt cheap for everyone involved, which is good, cause we're all poor bastards! only when things are finalized are actual wav's sent for proper mixing, etc.

I just wish they stop making all these complicated online system and just give us the same thing for LAN. The biggest pain in the ass is 1+ people trying to work on the same daw in the same room at the same time.

That would work, too. The computers on your LAN have to be connected to the Internets, but you can collaborate with people in the same room. Technically speaking, the issues are almost the same.

wondering how copyright would work. At what point does a song no longer belong to an individual but a collection of users and to what extent??

Let's say I write a song and do the instrumentation, and use an online singer. If said song becomes a hit doesn't the singer then have some claim of it, or are we going to have to agree to tedious pre-agreements??

I love the idea, but can envisage it being a legal headache, especially using people from different countries each with their own sets of laws...
Want to change your additive synth into an addictive one? You just need 5000 Cs!

And what if your collaborators smell of garlic?
How do you sort that out?!?!?

What about copyright issues ...
I don't know if I would be able to trust my projects in the hands of a stranger .

+1

On that basis - until we know more of course - this looks more like a fun thing than a serious *pro* option. I think I could certainly have LOTS of fun with it though

Also if you are in a band and can have a closed group for working together online with this ..... that would be very cool.
