How do you sort that out?!?!?
Well, it's Ohm Force, so you would bring up a Frohmage and ask for a french wine to accompany the whole shebang. :P

Back on topic: i really hope that Ohmstudio can bring remote collabs up to date. I remember using ResRocket back in the day and having plenty of fun with it (and of course, being able to finish lots of tracks also).

I can imagine the support calls: "hey, where do I plug in my drum kit?"

Really like the look of this and signed up for the Beta (hopefully I make "the grade").

This would make a great learning tool for any element of music that your not too hot at (effects, mastering, Eq),that you could learn from someone else whilst producing a track, and vica versa.

1. Traditional "pay XYZ dollars and it's yours".
2. Subscription based model.
I can't see Ohmforce doing #1, as having users with conflicting versions trying to collaborate would be too much of a headache.

A subscription model seems best, as it gives them continuous revenue, and allows them to offer DAW updates for free to make sure everyone is using the same version.

I see that Ohmforce just said this on Twitter:
@ohmforce Important detail: we talk about server-based *projects* but the sequencer/DAW is NOT web-based. It's not made on flash or java.
So the projects are hosted online, but the software is local. I think that answers the plugin question (I'll bet you can tweak the settings on someone else's plugin, but can't hear it unless they render the audio into the project).

You know if this works out for Ohmforce, I think the serious money for them would not be the individual user subscriptions, but rather licensing out the APIs and technology so that *other* DAWs could incorporate it into their software. Have I mentioned yet that those Ohmies are geniuses?

Now that would rock :)

They better quickly patent it then before Apple nicks their idea and patents 'music creation collaboration over lan or internet...'

Ohm Studio looks pretty cool. It's been quite a while since Image-Line's "Collab" died, and I've tried a few others like Indaba, but they lack the "real-time" capability that we are all looking for. Maybe this one will nail it. :P

I thought Apple were too busy buying out Ableton :o

Share beta was crapcanned for the time being.

Otherwise, I suppose you can just Collect All on save and send them the possibly massive .als file.

This. This right here. This is what I would love. But they'll have to get big enough on their own to convince others to support it.

And then the devs of the DAWs will have to manage to incorporate it w/ out f'ing things up. Unless it always rendered audio stems we'd still be left with only collabing with people using our DAW, but it'd be something we're comfortable using, at least.
Meh.

Ohm Studio is an interesting idea. I wonder if Ohm can succeed where other similar attempts have not been so successful AFAICT...

1. Steinberg and Rocket Network?

Steinberg had some kind of deal with Rocket Network I think years ago who had their API supposedly in use by MOTU, EMagic and Digi even but nothing came of it apparently. Or not much back in 1999. Maybe as Social networking is now an accepted norm (and online collabs) perhaps Ohm's offering can succeed. I guess time will tell.

2. IL Collab

Was or is that succesful? I don't hear much about it.

3. Ableton
Ableton had a preview, of some kind of online drop box variant many months ago...not much has surfaced since. Have they simply given that up already?

I suspect in theory you could be right but I think its more likely other DAW devs will likely roll their own version instead of paying Ohm. Just a guess.

It seems this is slowly but surely gaining interest among DAW users. Studio One and Ableton Live will apparently have some level of Sound Cloud integration built into their DAW's. Not sure what Steinberg use these days or Cakewalk for similar things. The marketing guys at SoundCloud clearly saw the potential of matching DAW's and online music collab / hosting sites just like Ohm appears to. It might be a new growth sector for DAW devs or this years big draw for DAW users like Sidechaining, Inline MIDI or Multiprocessor support of yesteryears. :hihi: Either way the next 12 months could be very interesting indeed.

..I thought they'd been rather too quiet for rather too long...

looks good

somewhat disappointed that a very English voice was instructed to mispronounce 'routing'

I think ohmforce's design is more suitable to musicians. If you pay close attention to the video there seems to be some features that are extremely innovative. I could be wrong, but it looks like they have something much better than previous attempts.
