Cubase users - need help/ideas - window sets

So,

I'm using Cubase for years but never thought much about this (but it's getting on my nerves when I'm working a lot):

When I'm in the main window (arrange?) and need to either open a VSTi or a mixer, arrange window resizes and I have to get it back to max size manually after closing the VSTi/fx or mixer.

Anyway of getting it to stay maximized so it would not change when I'm calling up the mixer and such?

I've had problems like this, the windows shuffling about normally, pisses me off too, never know the cause myself, I've just got 5 so don't know if that'll do it too?

So have shared you dismay but don't know the solution

You know I've had Cubase for years, but only recently got 5 (I had VST 5 before that) and I thought this behaviour was some setup I hadn't made. Good to see it's not me.

I do know that I drag the arranger window flush with the edge of of the dispaly/monitor eliviates the problem sometimes manually, this sometimes stops it, but sometimes when I close a plugin the arrange windows moves, and I have to stop what I'm doing to tweak the friggin' windows...

if it's the same as SX i was able to work around this by not maximizing the window, but resizing it to take up as much room as i could (i guess that's what breakmixer did too?)

also i dont know if it would work but there was an app i used to run called WinSize that would watch window titles and position them based on a fixed interval to x/y coordinates. i used it in the old days to keep things aligned just so.

I think it has something to do with VST windows being set to "Always On Top" and also having the arrange window being maximised.

The best solution i have found is (like others in this thread) to not have the main arrange page fully maximised, AND to only set a plug window to "Always On Top" if absolutely necessary.

Its the combination of those two together that is doing it ..... i think.

Yep, Cubase's windowing behavior is horribly thought out, perhaps not thought out at all. It's always been like that. Supposedly Cubase 6 (and Nuendo 5) are going to a single window layout like just about every modern DAW has had for years.

The mindless windowing combined with the horrid multicore performance, and of course the dongle(!) has finally gotten me to jump ship to Presonus Studio One Pro, just as soon as they release the Windows 7 FireStudio drivers and the Studio One 1.5 update. I figure that wait is going to be a lot shorter than the wait for a functional Cubase 6.

Yep, that's it, I also changed a setting(?!) That allows the vst plugin window to stay open until I actually manually closed it, allowing 2 or more plugins on the page in one go if needed, it used to close when I didn't want it too, but fixed that...

But all that shuffling of windows when closing the plugin still happens sometimes...and when it does it crazes me!

What you do is....

1. Stretch Cubase to fit screen(s)- don't maximise.
   Stretch project window to full size - don't maximise.

No window resizing will occur.

The problem with Cubase's multiwindow design is that it was developed in the days of Windows 95 with it its modest Windows classic title bar, and since then, the title bar in each subsequent version of Windows has gotten progressively larger. Now with Windows 7, Cubase is almost all title bars, and not a lot of room for much else.
