Is 2C's Aether REALLY worth it? (the answer is: yes, certainly)

just a small bug report :
trying to change the 'ER Type'
using novation's 'automap' layer (sl25)
crashes Ableton Live 8.1.3 every single time
other than that.. this is the best reverb I've laid my ears upon !

Thanks Andrew - that's all I wanted to knowSonar, Logic, Live, Cubase, Nuendo, DP, Studio One, etc... all do this automatically...
Understood - but why not take advantage of the "better" settings when bouncing - where possible.Galbanum wrote:and of course, as mentioned the lowest quality settings, are the same as the award-winning 1.0.1, so it's not the end of the world to use these settings if you have to either.
OK - we've got enough to keep us busyI am not going to be real active here today, as we need to put out heads down on this and getting the manual and web updated....

John, unless I misunderstood what I'm seeing, there are separate areas where you can enter the settings you would like to use normally and the settings to be used while bouncing or exporting.
Available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

That's right Sequent - I just wondered how aether knew the difference. If the host tells it it's being bounced, then it will apply the appropriate settings, and that's great. I don't have to do anythingSequent wrote:John, unless I misunderstood what I'm seeing, there are separate areas where you can enter the settings you would like to use normally and the settings to be used while bouncing or exporting.
As far as playback - the "lower quality" settings sound fine to me

I can't even get Aether 1.5 to validate. Logic 9.0.2 and 9.1.1 do this. I'm working on a MacPro 8 core under 10.5.8.
I'm wondering if I did the install correctly. I first removed both the original version from Components and the Aether folder in application support, then ran the installer. Do I have this right?
In the AU validator, it shows Aether 1.5 in there. But it won't pass the AU Validation.

A comment and a question.
First, I am using the demo of the 1.1 version. Upon first uses, it is great, and causes me to consider buying despite that I am much closer to a hobbyist than a pro, and have to watch the $ on equipment.
However, in using it last night on my female vocalist -- as opposed to mine -- it sounded more artificial and less organic than it had with mine. This gave me some pause. I am only using pre-sets, but just couldn't find one that worked. They all sounded very "reverby" -- one noticed the effect a bit obstrusively -- even on the more subtle presets.
I'm still very interested in the plug, and don't want to detract from this thread, but I hope there's nothing wrong with noting pros and cons as we all contemplate a significant process.
Second, a question for the developer -- my demo has a few days to go at least. When should I download the new demo -- after this one expires? Will I be able to in fact demo the new version as well?
Thanks,
Alex

There is snag in the AU version as mentioned... (VST is good) we apologize that somehow that one slipped through the cracks despite about 150 internal beta versions since 1.0.1, and despite having a large beta test group to test the final betas... we think we have fixed it already, and will upload a new version as soon as we check it and confirm. ..possibly today still...
as for new user questions, let's wait on those until we post press release and full support materials...

I will say we have some surprises coming in the way of presets soon... that's all for now...

Agreed... Aether sounds fabulous (to my ears) even in regular mode. I haven't tried bouncing anything yet. I can't wait to try this feature out.

...if you are having AU issues with Logic or DP 7.1.1 please try to re-download the update again now and run the installer again. (This contains a new AU build which passes DP 7.11 eval, and cures the Logic issues some people experienced.)
Does this resolve your problems? It should. If not, please send an email to:
support [aatt] 2caudio.com
Thanks.

After changing the skin to "indigo big" the vst is crashing ableton 7 and 8 and dsp quattro when loading (on mac os 10.5.8 )
default skin worked fine, so mac users should be careful
I have sent a crashlog to you, andrew!

Previous version skins should be removed by our installer--they are NOT compatible. If they are not removed automatically, it is possible that disk permissions or user rights are set such that the installer can not correctly remove the files. In this case please go here:
…/Library/Application Support/2C-Audio/Aether/Skins/
and delete:
"Berlin-Large"
"Berlin-Small"
"Indigo-Large"
"Indigo-Small"
you should have only two folders here:
"2C2D Berlin"
"2C2D Indigo"
…/Library/Application Support/2C-Audio/Aether/Skins/
and delete:
"Berlin-Large"
"Berlin-Small"
"Indigo-Large"

Bad news for me: 1.5 won't validate on DP 7.11 here either. (I downloaded at about 11am EST) If I force Aether to load, DP quits.
Had a heck of a time getting 1.01 back running again. Can't be without aether for the afternoon!
Let me know if I can help with further testing again. (I tested for 1.01.)
