Multi-channel output stylus/trilian

Hi all.

I'm having a great deal of trouble trying to get stylus and trilian to route parts 1-8 to aux tracks in logic 9.1. No matter what I do, everything plays through the "a" channel and the only track that responds is the master track. None of the aux tracks respond. I've followed the video on the spectrasonics site and it still doesn't work, so if an experienced user could help me out a bit, that'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not a logic user, but it still begs the question: Do you have all the 8 outputs in the mixer (using RMX as an example) set to their consecutive numbers? It would be a to h. Also, under the main grooves area there should be a "setting" bar. You probably don't want that on as everytime you change the sound it will revert back to "a" output

Now, if it's not clear, logic must have a way of having the audio and midi for each of the 8. If I remember correctly you have to manually set those up, but maybe a later version fixed that.

Anyways hopefully someone will chime in with a clearer way of setting up with logic but just in case you didn't do some of the things people get stuck on, maybe it can be at least some help.

I ended up getting it figured out, somewhat. I set up a multi-instrument in logic's environment and assigned the first 8 channels as directed by the video. When I opened the plug, I clicked the settings button like you said and loaded some instruments. Now, what I did before was set up my own aux tracks and manually route all the inputs to the proper channels from rmx, which didn't work. What I did this time was click and drag the environment object onto the arrange page, and it automatically created tracks that read keyboard or midi input properly as long as I had the correct part chosen in the plug as well as the appropriate track in the arrange. But I'm sort of back to square one considering the fact that the tracks it created don't have insert or send options for logic' own effects. I can automate the tracks, however. Making progress, but not quite. Hah!

I am new to Logic, but I have this kind of figured out now with help from a youtube video by sflogicninja. (Starting from the Spectrasonics page video is confusing, as so much has changed from Logic 7 to Logic 9).

Starting from scratch, create a new instrument track, click Multi-Timbral, change the number of tracks from 16 to 8, leave the output set to Stereo Out. This will create 8 new tracks in the arrange window.

Select the first, and in the I/O section of the channel strip load AU Instruments->Spectrasonics->Stylus RMX->Multi Out (8xStereo) This will make a further seven stereo pairs available in the mixer, although it won't be obvious at first.

Open the mixer. On the far left, just above the dB strip, there is a plus sign. Clicking this his brings up an add auxiliary tracks dialog. Add seven new stereo auxiliary tracks. (The original instrument strip you loaded RMX into will stay on Stereo Out, and will output Stylus Ouput A.)

Click and hold the input field of the first new aux strip. You should see choices for input 1-2, no input, and pulldown menus for input, bus, and whatever multi-output instruments you have added. In my case that's Inst1 for Omnisphere and Inst 2 for Stylus. Opening the Inst 2 pulldown menu gives me choices of

Stylus RMX 3-4
Stylus RMX 5-6
Stylus RMX 7-8
Stylus RMX 9-10
Stylus RMX 11-12
Stylus RMX 13-14
Stylus RMX 15-16

Set each of the auxiliary track inputs to a different stereo pair, and in the Stylus RMX mixer set outputs for tracks 2-8 to B-H

Each should now play through its own aux track, and only channel one (which is still set to Out A) should play through the original mixer track.

This is working for me now. Give it a try!

I actually did something very similar to this yesterday morning when I was fresh. I found the little multi-timbral box and created 8 tracks. What I noticed was that you couldn't put any inserts on the ones that were created, so I created aux tracks, like you suggested, and suddenly I had that capability. Now, I was using sound menus, since I wanted to build my own beats with the stock sounds that come with stylus, but quickly found that the midi needs to stay on the multi-timbral tracks, and all automation and inserts go on the aux tracks..whew! Seems like a lot of trouble for such a clever instrument. In the manual for both stylus and trilian they suggest using multiple instances of the plug if management of 8 parts gets too complicated. But of course, that would be a waste of a really cool feature!

I thank you so much for such a thorough and time-consuming post to help me out. I really appreciate it! After all that work, the track I was working on came out sounding great. Just need mor time to get used to the spectrasonics brand. It certainly is different.
