Thanks a lot to
IKMultimedia and Sonic Reality!

Its a great offer for the money. The sampletank engine is very usable and intuitiv, much better then other plugins I know (halion f.ex.)
I started the group buy and got 3 xpansions. Now my reviews:

Hip Hop Instruments
good usable sounds (Piano, A-Guitar,strings, harp, drums.... good quality. a lot of good sounds)

OmniSynth 2
try the piano and the rhodes, very nice. Very good value for the money

Symphony Strings 2
grrrrrr, sound thin and metalic (I deleted all except 2 patches). Im not a user of highend orchetral sets, but I have a lot of strings, which are definitly better. I hope the Cinematik Collection has better and warmer soundquality.

When it come to 4x1 Im interested in the Cinematik Collection or SampleOB Xpander xpansion. Anybody have them???? please reviews.

I've got the Cinematic Collection. It has a few strings patches, but I have East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra, so obviously I have that base covered. What stands out to me as the wonderful thing about this collection are special effect sounds, like partiucularly dynamic orchestral effects and such that you can't very easily pull off with for instance EWQLSO. It's a gold mine for suspense and horror type special orchestral effects at this price.

Sorry if this has been asked before - thread's too long to read...

Was gonna buy from esounds but on clicking "add to cart" is says there's a physical product in my cart and that I don't qualify for e-points.

Physical product ?

Post

No, it is downloads. :) See this link for an explanation of ePointz validity:
http://www.esoundz.com/policies.php

ePointz cannot be used as you are buying products downloadable from IKMM. but you will earn ePointz if you refer someone. See this thread for a list of people to refer (no need to pick me):

Thanx for the reply.

I have no account with esounds so I don't know their system. I don't really mind whether I get the points or not, I just didn't want to get a physical product as I'm a long way from the US.

If it's download, that's cool.

It's just categorized as a physical product because it isn't downloadable FROM our site. But it is actually downloadable (we call it digital deliver in this case) from IK's site and when you purchase from esoundz you get the serial number to use to download it from IK. The benefit of getting it from esoundz is that you'll get an EXTRA 1 gigabyte library at the end of the month as a bonus exclusive AND you CAN "earn" epointz by checking using a referal name which you can get here on KVR - some people have it in their sig, Mountain King posts links to our referral thread in our company forum on KVR... you might as well! ePointz are credits on esoundz for future download purchases. You'd earn 5% of your purchase (and so would the person you refer) up to $5. in credit on the site.

Ordered from esoundz! And referred Mr DarkStar.

I'm turning in for the night now, I'm sure I'll get my serial in my esoundz account tomorrow and then I;ll have to decide which packs to get, still haven't totally made up my mind yet :-)

samsam, thank you :) (even though I said "there's no need to refer me")

does cinematik contain loops like premade music? does it contain chords? that's not what i'm looking for. how much control does this pack offer a composer?

how deep is the layering in the drum pack? does it have a good range like rock, pop, funk, and metal?

what's the difference between the ss2 ob and the ob expander pack?

is the gm set consistently quality? how deep is the layering? does it overlap ss2?

does vintage keys overlap ss2? how deep is the layering?

does anyone have more detailed audio demos? ik, are you aware that your vintage keys ep demo clips?

I am in!

by the way... do I have to register the XT engine or can I use all the sounds with my existing ST 2.5 XL? Its not that I don't want to use it - but I prefer not to change a running system without a need. I will use the XT then on my laptop (whenever I get one ;) )

You can use it with your SampleTank 2.5 XL - XT will actually just update your existing install of it anyway to 2.5.4 (which is also available to you directly as a SampleTank user anyway and I recommend that you do get it).

i'm thinking if ik doesn't want to host a combi exchange, we should have a thread at kvr. should it be in the instruments or samples forum?
Can start with that, but I'll have to hit the folks here up on why there's a Preset XChange for AmpliTube but no Combi XChange for SampleTank. Might even be planned for all I know, but I can definitely check. Thanks!

I'll use the example of buying from esoundz ;) - Buy, get your serial, use the Product Registration on the IK site (on the left nav) and register that serial. You'll see a "Multibox" option in your User Area on our site after that is complete. Click that and you will be able to choose your first pack, then under Promotions you'll be able to get the rest that are available as the freebies (soon to be 3 there for sure!). No XT installation required (you'll need to install the Xpansion Tanks for sure though - and all the bonus stuff you get from esoundz in this example!).

Thanks!

You only get one XT license. I don't think that was made entirely clear by IK, but was mentioned in vague terms in the first XT reg email.

IMO, for those who bought in a couple times planning on giving the extra XT license to a son or daughter, IK should allow you to set up a second account and drop an XT license in there for them. Obviously, sharing sound libs is not allowed, regardless of who owns what licenses.

I used jampoints and bought in twice for the price of one :), so overall I'm very pleased with the quality per cost... I was disappointed with only getting the one XT license, but as I don't have a specific need for it right now it's not a big deal as it may be with others. BTW, is the XT player going to be a freebie for everybody anyway? Like the NI player and others? If so, the license thing is a non-issue, I suppose.

One specific criticism I have on the sounds that I'm not sure has been mentioned -- the OB Xpander has some volume problems with a number of patches. Anybody else see this? E.g., the first couple of patches in the list are very low in volume (the samples themselves, not the volume knobs on the interface)... like -50dB or -40dB low. If I enable the EQ effect and crank the gain knob there, and also crank the other volume knobs in the patch I can get a more respectable volume, but the base volume of a few patches is just not right.
