Don't buy it
Move along and forget all about it because there is little point in this going back and forth

Squids is a top notch guy from a top notch sample company. If you don't like him and Sonic Reality, you are in a distinct minority. Clearly this is not the product for you.

I don't know if I've posted about my second pack yet(couldn't find a post where I did, but forgive me if I did already!). My first pack was the vocal collection, which I'm still enjoying. The second set was the Symphony Strings 2.
There is a LOT of patches in this Xpansion. Everything from solo strings to individual sections of several different sizes, to full ensembles.
The solo strings cover all four string types, as well as some combination patches with all of them. You will find everything from legato to tremolo to staccato. The trills are great because they start off sustained and melt into a trill. There are slides up to each note, as well as some octave slide patches(sustained notes that then slide to an octave higher). With some clever programming, you could have a pretty expressive patch here.
I like the sound of the strings in this library because they are very intimate and warm. The cellos and basses have a woody nature to them, which is always welcome. There are typically multiple variations of legato patches, so you can find something that will work. And it's always refreshing to see the attack times on the recordings are done so you can actually play a legato passage without worrying about the sound dipping for each note(does that make sense? I couldn't describe it very well).
You'll find things like extra accent patches to add for fast passages, several detache variations, etc. It's actually a pretty competent library for it's size.
I think these strings work best for slow passages due to their lyrical nature, but with some cool programming can be much more versatile. It's definitely an improvement on the built in library from ST2.
I know this is a pretty generic and basic "review", but just wanted to say that it's a useful Xpansion if you are looking for some lightweight strings to fill certain roles. I'll answer specific questions if anyone has them!
Have fun, and keep people coming!

These sounds were developed over a span of over 7 years. That's why we call it the "Sonic Vault". We're going back through it all to bring out years of SampleTank sound development at a great price... and the full software engine is even given away free with the deal. In all the years releasing these sounds as Expansion Tank 1 libraries or special exclusive eSoundz Group Buy products not once has specs such as the amount of velocities been a featured part of the presentation. It's not something anyone should expect to happen now... especially when it isn't particularly a feature of these libraries which are designed more for RAM-based sample playback than a library we might make for a streaming sampler. Like I said, figure they have an average of 2-3 velocities depending on the sound. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
Sorry NAS, you're right... this is starting to go round and round in circles. I apologize for repeating myself. I repeat myself when I am in distress I repeat!
(a little King Crimson for ya'all)

Before you leave, I have some questions for you.androidlove wrote:my request for information from a seller results in pt barnum tactics, and i'm in the wrong? i am clearly in the wrong place. goodbye
1. Who is PT Barnum?
2. Wouldn't I have to know who PT Barnum is to use his tactics?
3. Can an android truly love?
Listen, let's all have some humor. These are just sounds! Meant to inspire songwriting, jamming, playing music... a lot of work went into them too! Take a look at this and you can SEE the instruments we sample: http://www.keyboardmag.com/article/vint ... 009/103381 Loads of vintage gear and everything else. Meant to be enjoyed and in this case for a REALLY affordable price... woops, maybe that sort of sales talk is the PT Barnum tactic I think... well, that's just me! I'm part Salesman and part Sea Creature. But, no one wants you to leave! Hang out. I'm sorry if we misunderstood each other. It can happen on a forum! There's nothing wrong with asking those questions. I'm just sorry I don't have the answer you want to hear.

Now, on a completely different Off Topic subject if I may for a moment... and to lighten things up a bit here... I have made a VERY interesting Gumbo and I am about to try it. The moment of truth is about to hit. This is either amazing because I did it differently than normal but had some stellar ingredients because I am across from a very FRESH Asian Market.... or it is going to be completely WRONG because I didn't use Gumbo File and Flour this time... couldn't find it. Rollin' the dice on a Sunday eve...

You could have said you were about to "sample it."
But, if you had, 'androidlove' would have come back and complained about that sample, too.

Well, I am happy to report (as if anyone cares... really, I guess I am some sort of dork in reality) that the Gumbo tastes absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! It is a little watery because I didn't use the flour but... I can live with it.
You know, the same thing can be said about the SampleTank sounds. They're not all perfect. Some sounds are better than others. But there are some real gems in there and the interesting thing is that the perception of that is different from person to person. I know what I like.
Bon Apetit! I'll check back with you guys later. I'm gonna have me some Asian Cajun for dinner!
PS. Don't let anyone ever call anyone a fanboy. No one wants to be called that because that is an unattractive name... and how come it's never FanGirl? But, anyway, if you DO enjoy the online presence of he who calls himself "Squids" then feel free to rise to his defense when others attack his character!
Just kidding. I just have to laugh a little bit. I've been on this here KVR for 9 or 10 years straight and I've seen a lot I tell ya. Have I got stories!

I know you are just joking a bit, but maybe it's not a good thing for this thread to keep egging the situation on?beau921 wrote:Squids wrote:Now, on a completely different Off Topic subject if I may for a moment... and to lighten things up a bit here... I would just hate this thread, one which has become the primary thread for this group buy, to get sucked into a big argument.
Not trying to get on anyone. I just think the thread will suffer if those who aren't involved in the issue make it worse.
Cheers.
