The Original Emulator II Marcato Strings Direct from the Beast!

I've spent this afternoon capturing the infamous "Marcato Strings" directly from my Emulator II's mix output. These are some of the most famous sampled orchestral strings of all time, they have been used on countless pop and dance tracks over the decades by hundreds of artists including the Pet Shop Boys.

These have been topped and tailed and then looped with some added velocity response in the form of subtle volume, attack and LPF just to make it a tad more dynamic.

The lumps in the samples are from the loops in original programs and so this is pretty darn close to having the real thing (all 50lbs+ of it!) in front of you!

Nope... this is a Kontakt multisample in the form of a monolith. The multiset can be parted out into .wavs but it really is brought to life by Kontakt.

If you don't have a copy of Kontakt you can always download the free player from Native Instruments - believe me, it's worth having a play!!

Thank you, I'm very happy the results of what really were experiments to see how these vintage samplers sound if you capture the audio direct from the instrument's audio path rather than simply transfer the sample data digitally.

In my opinion most of these instruments sound more alive and responsive when captured in this manner. This is in part due to the unique architecture employed in these vintage samplers - most of which worked in very different ways to modern hardware samplers due to their transposition filters, low bit rates, widths, companding and analog filters.

I just put together a very small track with your samples. This track was complete after 5 minutes. It's nothing special. I turned all the effects off, because I like the raw samples :)

http://www.upload-mp3.com/files/downloa ... esTest.mp3

I used your Emu2 Piano, Emu2 Strings and the Prophet 2002 Guitar. And just a little bit of limiting.

I had a lot of fun with them! THX again.

Cheers

I tried to D/L it with no luck - some sort of problem with the file access permissions.

This might be a long shot, but do you happen to have access to the "Liquid Stack / Liquid Stax" sample set for the EII? I had a copy of the samples formatted for the Emax and they were a favorite of mine. Getting these sampled like you did the strings through the analog out would better give the picture of the original through EII itself.

Thanks!

Hello - I don't personally but I do know someone who may well have a copy. I will ask him as I wouldn't mind a copy myself. I will let you know.

Cheers.
