Is 2C's Aether REALLY worth it? (the answer is: yes, certainly)

FYI on the mac side at least the two preset packs do seem to overwrite each other. I had to install to a different location and copy them into the presets folder manually.

Post

...yes it seems you guys are correct in some cases. Thanks for pointing it out. We did not see it initially b/c it was not occurring on our systems and therefore we could not reproduce it. We were able to find the issue though.

This is an oddity of Apple's Installer system. The problem was caused by the fact that it identifies installed components by the last folder name and we happened to have *preset* for both expansions. We've changed that and the problem does not occur anymore.

If you are effected by this (i.e. only some unknown percentage of OSX users), please:

1) goto the "My Account" section of the store

http://galbanum.com/shop/account.php

2) go into your order history
3) go into the details for this transaction
4) re-download the file(s)
5) run the installer(s) again

This will fix the issue.

Win users do not need to do anything.

Sorry for the confusion.

Oh no - I liked that too
I was the third person who liked it. :)
I have to join this opinion too. I got the new presets, and after spending a while on the browser on a 30" screen, my eyes are going wonky.

I really liked the visibility of the large GUI. Alternatively it would be cool to turn up the contrast in the Browser. My eyes will thank you ;)

...jeeze you guys almost crucified me the first time I tried to make the GUI 960 pixels wide. :D Now you want it bigger?

Well, ok... but only if you admit I was right the first time.

I bet you, someday everyone is going to decide they liked the 3D GUI too. I still think it's pretty damn cool, especially the large 3d indigo skin. But I like the new skins personally a lot too and understand now how they are better in many ways.

Anyway, all said tounge-in-cheek, so please don't anyone freak out and start a new flame war...

Yes, I will make a larger version again at some point. No eta yet.

OK Guys, here are some audio demos:

http://www.2caudio.com/products/aether/WAVs/

Thanks to everyone who helped make these--their names are in the file titles.

They are provided as 16bit 44.1k WAV files when I had them in this format. A few are mp3 since that is all I have for these particular files.

a few are me just improv-playing a sampler instrument into Aether. It's not the best sampler, samples, or performance--I'm out of practice since we started working on Aether 1.5. So really these particular examples are given to show the reverb since the dry signals are perfectly dry in these cases.

Wet and dry sounds are provided when I had them readily available.

More will come.

Anyone who would like to contribute additional samples for demo purposes is welcome. I know you guys do great stuff here. Please email if interested.

The zip file contains them all in case you prefer to download and play in iTunes or similar. it is ~218mb.

These samples were generally made using the new presets in the preset expansions.

Finally, please use the demo version to fully evaluate Aether.

I've been using the demo for a few days and I think it's a huge improvement. Aether, the Lexicon Native Bundle, and the Softube Spring Reverb are the only plugin reverbs that I enjoy. I don't think Aether has the gluing effect that the Lex Bundle has, but it has better modulation and better FX. With unlimited instances it's not an issue using them together.

Concerning GUI size, it's perfect for my screen, but not everyone has the same monitor as me. I think all plugins should have customizable size (Zebra, the Uhbik plugins, and the upcoming impOSCar 2 are great examples). There are plugins that I don't use because I have trouble reading them - they make working difficult.

Great work Denis and Andrew!!! Oh yeah, I have one other suggestion with regard to the GUI: add anti aliasing to the lines in the EQ graph - they look awful.

I don't care what anyone else said, you were absolutely right. Bigger is definitely better on my 24" iMac screen.

:D

As long as the ETA is sooner than surround support. (And before I go blind. MMMV. Help!)

Plus, I prefer the new GUI. The old one was really neat, but the new guy's much clearer. (Almost sparkly.)

I absolutely love this new version. Everything sounds fantastic. I especially like the outdoors/churchy settings.

I might have a weird younger-brother sort of affection for the old GUI but the new one is much. much better.

Wouldn't say no to the larger GUI option either. :)

I just upgraded to Aether 1.5 and I may have to go back to 1.0. Getting a "This VST is not compatible with Live" window whenever I try to run it. Aether 1 has been working fine for ages. Anyone else with Live getting this?

I'm on Live 8.1.3 and everything is fine. (OSX 10.6.3)

Sure you're not trying to add the 64-bit version to Live?

Post

Good point, but there was only a link to one download. Where do I get the different 32-bit version?

for the "Creativity" sound design type of uses, check this out:

Dry:
http://www.2caudio.com/products/aether/ ... ng_Dry.mp3

Wet:
http://www.2caudio.com/products/aether/ ... ng_Wet.mp3

Andy describes this as:
The two other related files are more sound design oriented:
01 - Bee flying is an original field recording of mine of a Bumble Bee.
02 - Aether Bee is the same file loaded into Virsyn Poseidon to envelope and loop etc; (although it sounds very similar still at that stage).
The magic comes from the Aether preset 'Tundra' which turns it into a wonderful floating pad.
or

Dry:

Wet:
http://www.2caudio.com/products/aether/ ... ds_Wet.wav

this is ONLY Aether.

I always liked it and prefer a large gui - just because a few people shouted the loudest doesn't mean you should have listened to them - many of the criticisms did not appreciate the thinking that went into the ergonomics of the gui
