Here's the temporary link. This is totally optional: http://www.esoundz.com/tmp/ST_Child_Preset_Update.zip

When I downloaded the .zip file for the xpansion tank sounds that come with Sample Tank 2 XT Free and try to unzip them, windows tells me that the files are password protected and asks for a password. Anyone know how to get the password or what to do about that?

4x1!! That was a good way to start Friday :)

This has probably been asked and answered already, but I can't find it (sorry)...

The 1 GB worth of sounds that come with Sampletank XT, are those a subset of the Sampletank XL sounds, or a completely new set?

@Peter, IK: Can you get your colleagues you put up a Sounds List for this too? That would help potential buyers to "get on the bus".

Some questions for Squids or anyone who has SampleOBXpander.

Looking at the patches for the Sample OBXpander, I note that some of the names may hint at who they sound like. The description of the pack mentions the oberheim synth being made famous by Lyle Mays of Pat Metheney Group, Van Halen and Rush.

Am I right in assuming that the Parent patch titled Eddie OB is something like the sounds Van Halen used, and Lyle OB is something like the sounds Lyle Mays commonly used? (I know this might be a dumb question).

Anyway, as a major Rush fan, I am keen to get sounds similar to those of Rush but cannot identify anything that is definitely a reference to Rush, other than possibly Tom pad. Could this sound like the synths in Tom Sawyer, which would be what I am really after? If not, can I acheive this sort of sound from the OB pack?

Am I reading too much into the names?

I am hoping to make this my choice for the 4x1, but would love any comments or feedback on these questions.

Cheers

Can somebody answer this?

I bought the original Piano Collection for Sampletank 1 years ago. I see that the patches in Piano Collection 2 are called the same, so I assume the new lib is based on the same samples as the original. Question is, are the new patches (now made for Sampletank 2) in any way different in terms of quality, dynamics, etc? I.e. can Piano Collection 2 be considered a useful update of Piano Collection 1?

Actually, I wonder the exact same thing about Symphony Strings 2 (which btw I know also adds some solo instruments not available in the original set).

I think it's safe to say that the overlap is significant. My suggestion would be to pick something you don't already have.

But at 4X1 you've got room to be risky!

I can't address your overlap question but I picked up the Piano collection 2 as my fourth xpansion. It has some nice piano sounds but I notice the largest is only 154 megs. I can't help but wonder what could be done with say 500 megs. I wonder if the quality would increase along with the size.

Anyway that got me to thinking. What's the future of SampleTank? Plans for larger libraries or expanded third party support? Any libraries in the works?
