i pm'd peter about it a few days back. he was unaware of it. i haven't heard anything

i get the feeling this deal was concocted to make a lot of money fast, and some things were overlooked in the haste

I would think that that combis are the combis usually installed with the full ST2 XL. They reference all the instruments in the XL Library. So the ST2 XT installer is the standard ST2 installer. For the moment you could move the into a sub-folder and create your own combis using the XT and Xpansion Tank 2 instruments.

[The combis are in "C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 2.5\Presets" here.]

Those combis are defaults that come with SampleTank. If you purchase and install the ST library, then they will be there to serve you. It is just a link to your presets folder, where you can save your own combis as well. If you don't intend on buying the ST library, then all you have to do is delete that combi folder and you won't see those combis anymore.

I don't know about that. I'm pretty damn impressed that I was able to download my packs only minutes after I joined the Group Buy. It seems like they made some effort to set this all up so that people can get instant gratification.

It's a tough crown, huh Squidly? :smack:

I'm not sure why some are interpreting your posts in that kind of light. For me they are coming across just as constructive as always.

I think that this kind of discussion demands some "philosophical" reasoning.
I can honestly say that I don't have any other interests than optimize the end users'(among others my own) output for the money spent. I'm not against anyone, I don't want to harm anyone's business (least softare manufacturers or dealers) but I believe the Internet and free flow of infomation are great advantage which help us getting a bit nearer the thing called "market economy". The ideal situation is that the decision maker (consumer) has 100 % complete information about all the products in the market, which of course never is the case, but Internet and this kind of Forums are nowdays more and more important to get nearer this. In these hard times eveyone tries to spend their money as well as possible - and every company tries to survive. My sympathy is on the both sides, and not only the sympathy because the money I've spent to the music sofware during the last 4 years is 5-digit (USD). Bottom line: in these Forums there must be always certain balance between the "selling" and "free discussion" because without the business these Forums would die, on my behalf I try to be at the same time both a very critical consumer and a good client + do what I think is fair and right. Harry
P.s. I promise my next comment tries to be more lighthearted.

Teksonik wrote: So my question remains. What does the future hold for the SampleTank and Sonic Reality team? Any plans for larger samplesets for SampleTank?
I can only speak for my own company, Sonic Reality. For our larger sounds (and believe me we have them... we just released the 130 Gigabyte EpiK DrumS - A Ken Scott Collection and will soon be releasing Neil Peart Drums which in Kontakt is over 30 gigabytes for one drum kit) are being created for our Infinite Player which is essentially Kontakt 4 format with an expandable third party library "gateway" to use with Kontakt Player or the full version. You can read all about those products here: www.sonicreality.com/products/

As for our plans for SampleTank and its future... without any public information about any future updates to SampleTank I can't comment in too much detail except to say that ST never was intended to be a full sampler. It is a rompler sample-based sound module with great built-in effects and multi-timbral/layering capabilities. I think the intention is to remain being THAT animal and if that's the case we will continue to make sounds that take advantage of that type of engine... what I think will change are not necessarily the sizes of the sounds (although we will to some extent do more elaborate sounds in the future for ST and they will likely be larger... not gigabytes larger but in the megabytes so it can still be used with RAM quickly) but the possibilities with the programming/processing we are able to do.

So that's a little glimpse but if anyone is holding their breath for SampleTank to become Kontakt, Structure, Halion... - let the breath out slowly and remain in a relaxed state. You are getting very sleepy... sorry, I was hypnotizing again. :D That's not what SampleTank ever was and not likely what it will ever be. However, it is good that it stays a powerful Rompler Workstation if that's the case because this is a needed piece in the virtual instrument set up for many people. The "workhorse".
Well then that's good news. I really only want ST to remain a Rompler and not try to be another Kontakt. I also look at the ST engine and see a 16 layer synth that's capable of some pretty awesome sounds. It's just that an average Joe like me sees a 154 MB piano that sounds good and wonders what a 500 MB piano from the same company would sound like. I like what SampleTank can do now but I just get the feeling there's another level to be reached.

So my wishlist to IK would be:

1. Per Layer Arps with latch.

2. Some work on the Filters.

To Sonic Reality it would be:

1. Some more concentrated sample packs. Instead of a dozen different pianos just one larger more detailed instrument for example.

2. There is no number 2

3. More layer elements. Sounds designed to be layered rather than be complex patches on their own. Think things like the classic DX sounds Tube Bell and Tine Piano, some of the D-50 elements etc.

I know times are tough and money is tight, but wow,it's ONLY $50!
I think some people would complain if it was $25.

Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:oops and I forgot to mention that Stretch could be used for the "melodyne-style" sample engine, FYI. Stretch is oft-overlooked but VERY cool and powerful.

Edit - to elaborate, you also do have some really nice oohs and ahhs in the Vocal Collection that could be used for rock and with Stretch you could really extend them.
Peter, this essiential, could you make a demo example of this and put it on this thread? Harry
Squids in person:

This Stretch possibility is a great feature in the ST.
What type of files can I import to the ST2 included to this group buy -
if any? "Import" gives me two options, Akai-formats and "samples", choosing "samples" let me list e.g. wav-files but these won't open nor the conversion-function won't work. How open this ST is to play your own samples? Harry

That's what I said already on the page... (check yourself) in this thread. This conclusion doesn't hinder me asking questions, gathering information, trying to get the best result, beeing critical. Harry

Hi,

I really like the sound of the Digital Download version...

Does anyone know if in future if I need to re-download them I can still access them from the Web site -- Or is it a one-hit download and we must back it up ourselves?

Cheers, Zam

My comment wasn't directed at you. It was nothing but pure spam.

The free sounds have to be downloaded in 30 days. After that they go away, so back 'em up!

The downloads are available on IK's site for 30 days... so make sure you back up whatever you download (which you should always do anyway :)).
